GLOBAL TROPICAL CYCLONE TRACKS - FEBRUARY 2005 !!!! IMPORTANT -- PLEASE SEE NOTE AT END OF FILE !!!! ************************************************************************* SOUTHWEST INDIAN OCEAN (SWI) - South Indian Ocean West of Longitude 90E Sources of Information ---------------------- The track coordinates as well as the central pressure and 10-minute average maximum sustained wind estimates were obtained from warnings issued by Meteo France's Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre on Reunion Island (MFR), which is the World Meteorological Organization's Regional Specialised Meteorological Centre for the basin. The 1-minute average maximum sustained wind estimates were taken from warnings issued by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) of the U. S. Air Force and Navy, located at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. The center position coordinates from JTWC were compared with those from MFR and annotations made in the Remarks column when the differences in general amounted to 40-50 nm or more. In this case, Mauritius was apparently extremely reluctant to believe that the system had reached tropical storm intensity. ************************************************************************* Storm Name: None Cyclone Number: None Basin: SWI MFR Tropical Disturbance Number: 13 Date Time Lat Lon Cent MSW MSW Remarks (GMT) Press 1-min 10-min (mb) (kts) (kts) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 05 FEB 04 1200 16.2 S 57.0 E 1003 20 Locally 25 kts 05 FEB 05 0000 17.1 S 58.6 E 1003 25 05 FEB 05 0600 19.1 S 59.1 E 1003 25 05 FEB 05 1200 19.7 S 58.2 E 1004 25 05 FEB 05 1800 21.5 S 57.5 E 1004 25 05 FEB 06 0000 21.6 S 57.0 E 1002 25 Locally 30 kts 05 FEB 06 0600 23.5 S 57.3 E 999 30 05 FEB 06 1200 24.3 S 56.3 E 997 30 05 FEB 06 1800 24.3 S 55.7 E 997 30 05 FEB 07 0000 25.4 S 55.5 E 997 3O 05 FEB 07 0600 26.3 S 54.7 E 997 30 Locally 35 kts 05 FEB 07 1200 26.5 S 54.0 E 997 30 05 FEB 07 1800 27.0 S 53.9 E 997 30 05 FEB 08 0000 28.2 S 53.5 E 999 25 Locally 35 kts S semi 05 FEB 08 0600 28.5 S 54.3 E 999 30 Extratropical 05 FEB 08 1200 29.2 S 54.7 E 999 35 Locally 45 kts SE quad 05 FEB 08 1800 30.0 S 54.7 E 999 30 ************************************************************************* Storm Name: None Cyclone Number: None Basin: SWI MFR Tropical Disturbance Number: 14 Date Time Lat Lon Cent MSW MSW Remarks (GMT) Press 1-min 10-min (mb) (kts) (kts) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 05 FEB 08 1800 18.0 S 56.3 E 1003 20 Locally 30 kts E semi 05 FEB 09 0000 18.1 S 56.2 E 1003 20 05 FEB 09 1200 18.2 S 55.6 E 1003 20 Locally 25 kts nr cntr 05 FEB 10 0000 18.3 S 54.5 E 1002 25 Locally 30 kts E semi 05 FEB 10 0600 17.9 S 54.0 E 1001 25 05 FEB 10 1200 18.0 S 53.4 E 1004 25 05 FEB 11 0000 18.0 S 55.0 E 1004 25 05 FEB 11 0600 18.4 S 55.5 E 1005 25 05 FEB 11 1200 18.0 S 55.5 E 1005 25 Locally 30 kts NE semi 05 FEB 11 1800 18.3 S 56.1 E 1005 25 05 FEB 12 0000 18.8 S 56.7 E 1000 25 05 FEB 12 0600 18.5 S 57.0 E 1004 25 05 FEB 12 1200 19.0 S 58.1 E 1003 25 Locally 30 kts E semi 05 FEB 13 0000 19.5 S 59.5 E 1003 25 05 FEB 13 1200 20.4 S 58.6 E 1003 25 05 FEB 14 0000 21.2 S 57.7 E 1003 25 Locally 30 kts SE quad 05 FEB 14 1200 21.4 S 57.0 E 1003 25 05 FEB 15 0000 21.9 S 55.8 E 1001 25 05 FEB 15 0600 22.0 S 54.5 E 1001 25 Locally 30 kts S semi 05 FEB 15 1200 22.3 S 53.7 E 1000 25 05 FEB 15 1800 22.0 S 53.4 E 1000 25 05 FEB 16 0000 22.3 S 53.0 E 1000 25 05 FEB 16 0600 22.6 S 52.3 E 1002 25 Locally 30 kts SE quad 05 FEB 16 1200 22.9 S 51.7 E 1002 25 05 FEB 16 1800 22.2 S 51.8 E 1003 20 05 FEB 17 0000 21.5 S 51.5 E 1004 20 05 FEB 17 0600 22.0 S 52.0 E 1004 20 05 FEB 17 1200 22.0 S 52.1 E 1004 20 ************************************************************************* Storm Name: None Cyclone Number: None Basin: SWI MFR Tropical Disturbance Number: 15 Date Time Lat Lon Cent MSW MSW Remarks (GMT) Press 1-min 10-min (mb) (kts) (kts) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 05 FEB 24 1200 8.4 S 83.8 E 1004 25 05 FEB 25 1200 10.9 S 83.7 E 1002 25 05 FEB 25 1800 11.2 S 83.3 E 1001 25 05 FEB 26 0000 12.4 S 84.0 E 1001 25 05 FEB 26 0600 13.3 S 83.8 E 1000 25 Locally 30 kts SE quad 05 FEB 26 1200 13.7 S 83.2 E 999 30 05 FEB 26 1800 14.1 S 83.3 E 998 30 05 FEB 27 0000 14.2 S 83.1 E 998 30 05 FEB 27 0600 14.0 S 83.0 E 998 30 05 FEB 27 1200 14.6 S 84.1 E 998 30 05 FEB 27 1800 14.9 S 84.2 E 999 30 05 FEB 28 0000 16.1 S 84.6 E 999 30 05 FEB 28 0600 15.7 S 84.6 E 1002 25 ************************************************************************* ************************************************************************* NORTHWEST AUSTRALIA/SOUTHEAST INDIAN OCEAN (AUW) - Longitude 90E to 135E Sources of Information ---------------------- The track coordinates as well as the central pressure and 10-minute average maximum sustained wind estimates were obtained from warnings issued by the Tropical Cyclone Warning Centres at Perth, Western Australia, and Darwin, Northern Territory. IMPORTANT NOTE - PLEASE READ !!!!!! To repeat the caveat which is included in the Author's Note at the end of the cyclone summaries--the tropical cyclone tracks I prepare are based upon the operational warnings/advisories/ advices/bulletins which are issued by the various tropical cyclone warning agencies around the world. Users of these tracks should be aware that they are preliminary and subject to revision during post-seasonal analyses of the cyclones by the forecasters and analysts at the several warning centers. For the Atlantic and Northeast Pacific basins, official tropical cyclone reports and "best tracks" can be found at the website of the Tropical Prediction Center/National Hurricane Center: http://www.nhc.noaa.gov> The Joint Typhoon Warning Center's website contains links to their Annual Tropical Cyclone Reports which include that agency's "best tracks" for tropical cyclones in the Northwest Pacific basin, the North Indian Ocean, and the Southern Hemisphere: http://199.10.200.33/jtwc.html> SPECIAL NOTE: Back issues of the global tropical cyclone summaries and monthly cyclone track files can be obtained at the following websites: ftp://ftp.aoml.noaa.gov/hrd/pub/landsea/padgett/> http://australiasevereweather.com/cyclones/> http://www.typhoon2000.ph> http://mpittweather.com> http://www.tropicalcyclone2005.com/> PREPARED BY: Gary Padgett [email protected] SIGNIFICANT CONTRIBUTIONS BY: Michael V.
