Since 1944: 37 ( TC QUENTON (1983) and TC CHLOE(1984) are included since they were analysed at 955mb just prior to landfall).

Since 1978( geostationary): 22 Since 1978 near 58% of landfalls were at least Cat 4 cyclones.

Remarks:(>980mb cyclones are discounted):

From March 1960 to March 1961: 4 TCs made landfall : one was a Cat 5 at landfall and another one a Cat 4 at landfall.

From February 1970 to December 1971: 4 TCs made landfall : one was a Cat 5 at landfall and another one a Cat 4 at landfall.

From March 1979 to February 1980 : 4 TCs made landfall : one was a Cat 5 at landfall; the other three were Cat 4 at landfall.

From December 1994 to April 1996 : 6 TCs made landfall : five were Cat 4 at landfall. Three TCs were very close to Cat 5 at landfall.

From March 1999 to December 2000 : 5 TCs made landfall. Only one TC was below Cat 4 at landfall.
