Title: identification of cloud features
Post by: orage on 14 January 2007, 03:03:02 PM
Hi

I have been trying to identify cloud features in the storms that come rolling past my area, but havn't had a lot of success. What I really need is someone to show me the features in the storms. Does someone have any photos of good examples of common cloud features, and could you point out where they are in the pictures.

thanks

...and you can visit this forums index and go to the info link and look at Jimmy's observing cloud/thunderstorm structure papers - will answer all your questions re what types they are too.

Thankyou.

Could someone tell me whether you can see a shelf cloud in this photo?

I have a photo of a shelf cloud as my profile photo - ( on the left hand side here mate!)  I think yours does not depict a shelf cloud - the base is low but popular with thunderstorms!

No - it looks like the edge of a cumulus congestus cloud or thunderstorm - nice rain free base area present.   Are there any other views of the same cloud ?
