Welcome reprieve to outback scorcher

Residents in Queensland's far western communities have welcomed a cool change after a week of 40-plus degrees Celsius temperatures.

Wow! I wonder how official the temperatures were in the region of far western Queensland. Temperatures of 49C and 50C is quite phenomenal. Obviously, without a Stevenson screen, temperatures such as these cannot be officially accepted. I wonder if anyone affilated with the Bureau of Meteorology can provide further insight into this.

Nevertheless, dead native animals certainly signifies how extreme and prolonged the heat must have been in the region.
