Title: Calculating wind speeds
Post by: Mike on 23 August 2008, 09:22:04 AM
I've regularly seen comments and numbers relating to wind speeds at m/s, now it's metres per second is that right?  How do you calculate such things as far as conversion goes?

A lot of the weather wx in the states use this in their text and I thought it might be helpful to briefly get an explanation for the conversion for those members wanting to find an answer...me for one.

To get kilometres per hour simply multiply the metres per second figure by 3.6.

eg: 1 m/s = 3.6km/hr
1 second x 60 x 60 to get metres per hour (3,600), then divide the metres by 1000 to get km (3.6).

Apply similar maths to convert to other measurement of speed.
