Howdy Guys, New to this forum...
was fishing at West Lakes on the 9/4/2010 when i noticed a rotation in the dark clouds in front of me..... watched it for a few minutes and noticed a small funnel form and slowly lower..... it never made the ground but stayed formed for around 5mins b4 slowly rising and dissapearing....
Was this a tornado or water spout?
Cheers guy

I think it is a waterspout but not quiet making a funnel all the way down. It also looks like it could be a land spout, And finally it may be a funnel cloud but because Ballina has a few of these it looks like a waterspout to me.

Definitely a funnel cloud. They are classified as tornadoes or waterspouts only if the circulation reaches the surface.

thats nice to know i have seen some waterspouts in ballina where the funnel is halfish way down or less but you see water sprays.

If you see the water spray on the surface then it is a waterspout - the funnel does not have to be visible the whole length.
