It may have been a marginal situation but sufficient shear, heat and moisture as well as an advanciong dryline for severe storms to develop.
After a storm developed along the dryline, it quickly developed rotational characteristics. Unfortunately, the environment it was heading into was somewhat cooler - the storm gradually collapsed.
After waiting around for a little while, we caught a glimpse of an overshoot of one storm to our southwest. Having nothing else on offer and the storm advancing northeast, we made a dash for Midland. We were treated to a nice sunset colouration of the storm's structure.
