The rain did stay longer than expected here in Sydney (especially the coastal areas as I found out Saturday) delivering two days in a row where substantial rainfall occurred in some parts of the city.

From 9 am Friday morning to 9 am Saturday morning, the best falls in the Sydney area occurred over the northern and north eastern suburbs such as Hornsby 70 mm, Terrey Hills 64 mm and Chatswood 58 mm.

Falls in this region varied from 58 mm to 86 mm.

The northern suburbs coastal strip had falls from 37 to 50 mm such as 42 mm at Narrabeen.

Sydney city had 62 mm. The eastern suburbs had between 40 and 50 mm such as 40 mm at Bondi and 47 mm at the airport.

The southern suburbs had between 33 mm and 53 mm with Engadine getting 33 mm and Cronulla getting 54 mm.

The south western suburbs had between 14 and 30 mm with 14 mm at Holsworthy, 17 mm at Campbelltown and 30 mm at Macquarie Fields.

The western suburbs had between 18 and 51 mm such as 23 mm at Penrith, 32 mm where I live (Blacktown) and up to 51 mm in the Parramatta area.

The north west around Richmond had around 17 mm to 19 mm.

Falls were generally lighter in the west and south west than the rest of the city.

On Saturday after 9 am, rainfalls were lighter. The north eastern suburbs had the heaviest falls such as 29 mm at Dee Why and 30 mm in the eastern Chatswood area. Falls were more uniform ranging from 15 mm at Blacktown, to 19 mm at Parramatta to 21 mm at Hornsby. Many suburbs had between 12 and 17 mm.

Only the far western and south western suburbs had lighter falls such as 7 mm at Richmond, 4 to 8 mm around Campbelltown, 8 mm at Liverpool and 5.6 mm at Penrith. Again the far western and south western suburbs had the least falls.

Quote a good September rain event here which is very rare for this time of year. We scored a healthy 53mm for the event all up. I thought that GFS and LAPS did a pretty good job about 48 hours out picking the southerly component of the low and the rainfall location. It was pretty consistent with big falls in the north Sydney basin - just drifting slightly into the ranges (BM's and northern hills - dural to the nth beaches).
