Accidental Lightning Photograph
« on: 26 February 2009, 09:45:33 AM »
I was out taking some photos of the storm on the 1st of Feb, the sun was setting behind the storm and the clouds looked beautiful. I got the surprise (not to mention fright) of my life when lightning struck that same moment I clicked! About half an hour later we could smell smoke and realised that strike had hit a tree and started a fire. Earlier that evening lightning had already blown our power and phone lines and with barely any mobile phone coverage it was very lucky the front end loader was in the shed near the house. Trent was able to put a bit of a fire break around it to slow it down a bit before the fire trucks arrived. It finished up 200m from the house. Our two littlies slept so soundly through the whole thing. I suppose if the window rattling thunder wasn't going wake them then fire engine sirens wouldn't either!

Great lucky shot Kristy! Sunset CGs are some of the nicest lightning photos.
Just as well the fire did not cause any major problems.
