Topic: Southern QLD waterspouts 28th May 2007

Six waterspouts were reported in the Noosa to Double Island Point area on Monday 28th May 2007 including this one taken by local resident Barry near Teewah:





Checking Gympie radar it looks like it came ashore just before 10am.

Barry made these comments about the event:

"The day was initially bright and sunny. After about 15 minutes the sky turned black, it got bloody cold (for Queenslanders at least) and then this..."

"We watched as about four of these built up and come ashore. The rains that accompanied them were something else - the beaches all but disappeared and it was like driving with the tide fully in. The water was lying about a foot deep on top of the sand."

"You could see these twisters break up as they hit the dunes but try to reform as they must have got to Lake Cootharaba on the other side."


Other waterspouts were also reported off the northern Gold Coast. Seems conditions were ideal for funnels.
