Suspicious thunderstorms?
« on: 04 September 2007, 12:12:28 PM »
While we're all waiting for storms to come with some regularity here's a new thread to get some minds ticking over whilst we're all storm starved.  Do you have a sneaky photograph of what is or is not a thunderstorm cloud and without giving any details away see if the minds on this forum can work it out by viewing the photo & give some comments on why they decided - real or not!

The idea is to lie through your teeth and see if we can't catch you out.

Here's my pic.to start things off.  Anvil from thunderstorm as it passed behind home.

Looks weird, because anvils are not that dark, they're fluffy white. It looks like a small isolated storm to me.

My money's on bushfire smoke.

We had some huge fires here last summer which burned 100,000 Ha in just it's first day. One of my mates who hadn't heard about the fire pointed at it and asked 'is that storm coming our way?'. I think I posted this link at the time which includes our description:

Anyway your photo has that same smokey smell about it ;)

And besides.. your photo is date-stamped today and MODIS shows smoke blowing into Darwin from the east :-)

Aw you guys are just to educated!  Yeah there was a very large fire north of my home and just had to think of something to post!  Maybe if we had had storms today if might have not been so obvious, but from afar this fire looked black an storm like in structure - wishful thinking on my part.

So anyone got any photos now that David has seen my 'smoke and mirrors'!
