Your descriptive storm chase photos
« on: 30 December 2007, 07:34:51 AM »
In this thread i'd like to see some of other members' storm chase photos with a definite 'human' element to it as opposed to full blown cloud or lightning shots on their own.  Your favorite photo that has someone in it that you do or do not know that tells a story that you can relay that you snapped during a chase either here or abroad.

I've included mine simply because you could just about add your own 'bubble' and add the comment!

Shots of Nick Moir when he was up here in Darwin chasing.  The first one is him taking shots of a scrub fire started by lightning during the chase and I could not help laughing as he litterally through himself in the 'oven' to get some shots.  It's hard to see where the fire is whipping up as you peer into the viewfinder, i'm sure those curly locks got fried!  Talk about an obsession with fire mate.....!

The second photo is Nick cowering under the massive impact of 1.5 cm hail :) - he kept yelling to me 'where?, where?' as I shouted for him to pick the things up for a photo!  He reminded me of a predator seeking its prey as he scoured and eyeballed the tundra for the prize whilst avoiding the frozen peas falling on him!  His body posture shows it all and yes, that's hail flashing by the lens when i took it!

Hi guys,
This is a great thread idea Mike! We all see unreal weather shots here but it's always great to see "behind the scenes" so to say. Photos of ourselves are rare but I'll share on of my recent favorite snaps where I had a chance to sneak us in. I'm bracing myself in a weird stance here, trying to remain upright due to ridiculous gust/outflow winds, on top of Bald Hill, Lightning Ridge, 50feet above the surrounding plains. Russ is on the right hand side.

Nice job with the shots Mike, you should have given Nick a few onions & snags to BBQ ON his camera while shooting the fire!

Great shot of Rodney and Australia's most famous Rav4 there Michael! Almost looks like a storm chaser that actually knows what he's doing lol? ;) That shot of Jimmy "the hail maker" is hilarious! Many times Russ and I said we should just bust out a bag of ice jump on the roof and make some decent hail for once! Ahh... the things you'll do for a laugh when the weather is boring :)

Top shots fellas.  Chuckling away inwardly as I read the comments!  Sometimes you have to fill the time in waiting for storms to happen, Nick ended up one day snoring his head off taking a granny nap whilst we waited for Cu fields to form - which they did not! I should have taken a photo of him - but nahhh!
