Some interesting cells W and NW of Sydney at present. I see the BoM has noted a hail report in its updated warning:


SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
for LARGE HAILSTONES, FLASH FLOODING and DAMAGING WIND
For people in the
HUNTER and parts of the
MID NORTH COAST,
CENTRAL TABLELANDS and
NORTH WEST SLOPES Forecast Districts.


Issued at 2:54 pm Tuesday, 29 January 2008.


Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce large hailstones, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and damaging winds in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Scone, Mudgee, Bathurst and Katoomba.


Katoomba received hail to the size of Golf Balls just before 3pm.

Reports of 3cm hail on the TV News but no pictures. Unluckily the storms built up over the mountains and stayed there. Was very sticky in Sydney today with humidity levels, visibility very poor (I couldn't see any cloud formation towards the mountains from near the city or Parramatta). Having been working in or on roofs all day at Botany, I had hopes a storm would come through to cool things down a bit but no luck. Looks like the air con stays on tonight in the bedroom as it is still warm and sticky, as it has been the last few nights.

Hi Gang,
                  was also stuck in the inner West and SW Sydney areas.
  could see and photo'ed the cells going up over the mountains from ~ 11:30 onwards
very impressive!   over a period of ~ 3 hrs watched and photo'ed 3 separate cells fire up
till their anvils grew and merged.
    Talk about 'Murphy' striking !!!!   a 3 day weekend and not a storm in sight first day back to
work and good storms fire up within easy driving distance  (Give Me A Break!!!)    ;)
