Breathtaking images there Jimmy, Michael and Rodney,
Wonderful colours in the lightning shots around twilight, the evening shot jimmy, of the lightning travelling parallel to the earth and then returning to the cloud base is only one of two i have seen . The other I captured over Tamworth . Spot on timing for the microburst, curious to know the downward velocity of that event considering your animated realtime captures. Yes, the LP supercell mammatus umbrella certainly gave the Sydney basin a taste things to come, I hope, Cheers and well done again, Con.

Great images there MB and JD. Love that last set of lightning pics JD!  MB - some of your shots looked identical to mine - and we were 200kms apart!  Love the Rav4 with precip curtain and sunlit cgs!

Looked like you guys got the better of the structure on Saturday. From where we were, the storms were quite powerful and the atmosphere was keyed with energy, except the orientation of the anvils were killing the storms as they moved into areas that had been under anvil rain for nearly 2 hours. It meant that the areas NW of the storms were always going to be far more explosive. It was nice to catchup with Dave and explore the lovely NT's. If we didn't have to drive 8 hours back to Sydney I think we would've ended up in QLD too.

We scored some developing storms just west of Uralla on the way, which were some of the most lightning active storms I have seen in years (thats not saying too much tho..) - however most of the flashes were cc's or sheeted.

Friday was a much better day for us - much more like we thought the setup for Saturday was going to be.

I will post some pics shortly - we are just about to release the new version of SSC which will help make it easier to update content and manage the photos that we have.

Hi Dann,

Great you got some action down near Glen Innes. We could not see the base but the anvil was spectacular and we watched it closely. We almost ended up down that way. We headed a little more inland and then saw the base and finally NW away from the anvil complex.

I know what you mean about having to return to Sydney. Anyway, I wished we had met up.

Sorry - didn't see your pics Rod and Jeff - great work all round!! Its amazing to think that you three (JD, MB, RW) were watching the same storms and you get so many different shots (lightning especially).

these were taken at the time it turned north after it had been moving east , you can see the sudden change of direction around the 4th frame

Hi all,
I have some "rather late" pictures to post from this (the 12th) amazing day for structured storms! We had received a beaut little LP cell during the day that I'd love to show. There were also great microbursts with this cell and the hail was 2cm in size! This was the first time I had taken my father out with me. I remember it was pretty active and a bit dangerous with numerous cannoning CG firing down around us (a few of these I caught on DV) I apologize for not posting any specifics about the numbers etc. but it was a fair while ago lol! I can remember that it was pushing over 40ºc that day and the shear was pretty good as evident in the structure. This cell approached town from the SE and had a large backsheared anvil. We also had a subsequent storm that developed a nice little wall cloud out on the Cumborah plains that night at around 9pm. I had got some of my best lightning shots to date from that storm.

Hi Jimmy...I have never seen lightning streak that close to the ground horizontal! What a superb image!  I did see one similar last year but only small - this image just blew me away.  My daughter saw it and went Whoa!  She said I should nick it and put on my website - to which I replied 'No, only with permission!'

Fantastic images by all....salivating as I view.
