Only just found out about a very significant rain event for Fiji which has resulted 7 fatalities. Monsoon trough has been parked over the region.

Nadi Airport 24-hr rainfall data :
24h rs to 9am Thu 8 Jan : 100.1mm.
24 hrs to 9am Fri 9 Jan : 239.3mm
24 hts to 9am Sat 10 Jan : 102.9mm
24 hrs to 9am Sun 11 Jan : 280.8mm --- all of this fell bet 9am Sat to about
2am Sunday morning.

Heaviest Nadi fall was through local Saturday 10 Jan.....seemed like never
letting up.
Incidentally, Monasavu, where our hydro power station is (middle of Viti
Levu....largest island of the group) received the highest of 386mm on the
same 24-hr period.....upto Sun 11 Jan.
For same 24-hr period, Rakiraki, received 322mm.
