Storms NE NSW and SE Queensland - 27/9/2006

Hello all
If you look at the radars at 1.30 pm. A cluster of thunderstorms in NE NSW and SE Queensland and one severe storm SE of Toowoomba. All moving east towards the Brisbane area.
The first of the season. There are even severe thunderstorm alerts for large hail on one or 2 cells in a few areas in the vicinity of the storms.
This indicates the seasons are now changing.
I had a look earlier and suspected that there would be some activity in NE NSW today. The first of many hopefully.

Hi Harley,
Yep, some ok storms up there atm amongst a rain band - not much lightning though it seems. Apparently very electrically active storms around Moree last night. We'll see if we can get some lightning off the coast tonight!

The strongest storm which was probably the main reason for the warning in the NWS&P region formed before noon east of Coonamble and eventaully died on its was to Warwick seven hours later - not a bad track. This cell was separate from the mainly squall line type activity near the coast.
Where I live near Lismore we had some activity mainly between noon and 2pm. Copped 13mm in 7mins from the first storm and a total of 28mm for the day. Only a couple of lightning flashes in the evening.

Hi Everyone.
Pleased to meet you all!
We've just written a short report about a little LP supercell that developed near Narrabri on the NSW north nest slopes and plains on Wednesday the 27th. It was just at sunset and there was no real flanking line so my mate Chris got some nice photos. Unfortunately the wide-angle lense ruined the close-ups though.
It's here:

Best wishes,
Dave
