Heat waves and bushfires - Friday 13th October 2006 (onwards)

Hi,

When I typed in the date, I now realised what it means for the superstitous - Black Friday. Another wave of heat is encrouching southeast Australia over the next few days. Being school vacation, there can be no doubt that there will be fires - I mean you can't blame lightning strikes this time!

Regards,

The bush fires were on our TV NZ news tonight.

Maybe we will get some smoke haze over here in a day or two.

Hi,

Thankfully bushfires were not widespread but two people were charged for deliberately lighting fires as anticipated.

Tomorrow is another day of high temperatures. Today the maximum was 37 - 38C.

Hello

Two days of 37C temperatures in a row for Sydney (Observatory Hill) is the first for October in 150 years of record keeping. I looked through the BOM web site and found out that such temperatures are rare for any time of the year for Sydney. Another weather record has been set (Heat related) at Observatory Hill.

I also noted that the same heat event brought the first 40C temperature 12/10/06 for southern Australia for this season at Tarcoola (South Australia).
