Thanks to ex-Pierre and a struggling low over the Arafura Sea we've got storms in the vicinity.
The soundings for 12Z weren't that favorable but the 00Z sounding looked a wee bit promising for convection. Some speed shear in the uppers above 500. DPs went from 19 - 22 during the day and humidity rose a tad. Satpics and radar shows clusters of cells around 50-200km to the S, SW and NE of Darwin gradually grouping together with the ones out to the NE moving toward Darwin.
On the drive home I observed two cells about 30km to the S from where I live and were certainly large. Nice updraught strength with tall billowing towers and separate storms on either side albeit immature. To the NE there is a nice grouping of cells together originating from a Gulf Line that came through Gove and will be watching those with interest.
If they keep maturing (which they appear to be). Hopefully they'll stick around and I'll get some pics - guess I'll have to take what I can get!
