It's not about the leadership
If you listen to lawyers for the Victorian Government, what went wrong on Black Saturday can't be pinned on those in charge or how they executed their roles. Allan Myers, one of the bevy of high-powered QCs who represented the Government's cause in the Royal Commission, scoffed at the idea. He likened it to "romantic" notions of military leadership, of "the captain going down with the ship" and "leading the charge from the trenches". Apparently policies to protect a bushfire-prone state have nothing to do with good leadership.
