Few storms moving over SEQ today, didn't go out chasing, but spotted these couple of funnels/waterspouts off the Sunshine Coast earlier this afternoon.
They were a fair distance out so things are a bit grainy, but could just make out a connection on the first funnel as it roped out.

Hi Paul,

Nice captures of the funnels and waterspout. Looks like a very fat funnel cloud in the third pic - you should crop and enhance that one too.   Great to see the overall cumulonimbus structure with it too.

Cool waterspouts Paul :)

Autumn continues to deliver with some more storms tonight. I picked a bad location for storms approaching from the north but got some picks anyway.

Hey Michael the beach was Macauleys, basically the northern end of Park Beach. The lightning shots are from west Korara Road, it has a great view south but not much north and east.

31st May 2011

Here are some pics from todays action. Noticed a cell creeping towards the coast at Ballina, this is what it looked like at South Lismore

With one last check of the radar I bundled the kids and camera gear in the car and headed off to a lookout at Ballina to try my luck. The cell was sitting about 30km offshore and the bolts were infrequent so it was hard to know where to point the camera at times. Anyway here's the best of them

Spewing this one blew out....there were a few others like this. There is some ghosting of the sensor that you can see that might indicate what the bolt may have looked like.

Hope you enjoy

Cheers Jason

Another waterspout to add to the collection. This is from today 31/05/11 at around 1pm from Point Lookout, North Stradbroke Island -

Note this is not my photo but I was given permission to post online. Not a bad waterspout there, I can confirm that the vortex is definitely reaching the water (bit hard to see in the resized image). Point Lookout would have been a great place to be today with numerous storm/updraft pulses going up just offshore. Wouldn't be suprised if there were multiply waterspouts off Point Lookout during the afternoon but I can 'only' confirm one.

Hi guys,

Great to see some action up north!

Down here, we have had some activity - Schofields copping about 85mm of rain - 71.8 in 24 hours. May would have otherwise have been a dry month.

Regards,

Here is another shot of the 2nd larger funnel from the 29th
-fat funnel (touch over contrasted)

the cumulonimbus that produced the funnel went on to look like this as it was dieing

I have chucked together a time sequence of shots and footage showing the funnels lifecycles and how the relate to each other and the cloud above with some timelapse of the remaining cloud structure.

2011 May 29 Waterspouts off the Sunshine Coast

Bit later in the avo as the light was going this was the scene with another small funnel that lasted a short while.

3rd small funnel closer
