Storm Photo of the Week (August 7 - 14) , Severe Weather likely Today/This Week for the N. Plains

The "Storm Photo of the Week" winner comes from Emily Byers who was vacationing near Fort Morgan, Alabama and was treated to several waterspouts! Waterspouts are most common in the late Summer when deep-layer shear is relatively weak and surface convergence is realized.

Severe weather is likely today across the High Plains, anywhere from NE Colorado through SW South Dakota under the upslope regime. The Storm Prediction Center states that large hail will be the main threat today, although a few tornadoes are possible. Andy Gabrielson and I are currently making our way west on I-90 and have an initial target of Merriman, Nebraska in Cherry county. We will be sending Reed live video blog updates from the field, so be sure to follow his href="http://www.facebook.com/ReedTimmerTVN and/or http://twitter.com/#!/TornadoVideos

Below, is a video of a stout tornado we witnessed last Thursday (from a distance) in Cherry county. Due to the lack of roads and a couple of mistakes, we were only able to view this tornado from about 8 miles away. Hopefully, today we get a repeat and are much closer! Be sure to check out the http://chase.tornadovideos.net/pages/full_screen page where other streamers will be streaming live video today.
