June 9, 2006 Wyoming, USA Supercell pics - dark funnel?
« on: 28 January 2007, 01:01:59 PM »
Hi all, while I was reviewing my USA chase pics from last year I came across these shots from a supercell we intercepted in Wyoming.  We never saw interaction with the ground but the tornadic potential of this storm was high and we saw several funnels while inside the meso (as Jimmy has covered in his chase report for the day).  However, I didn't appreciate how clear a possible funnel is in one of my pics so I thought I'd post it.  I have included 2 pics, each with a high contrast edit to bring out the shape.  I'm most interested in the first pic (and its edit).  Let me know what you think.

hard too say mate , i think when it comes to tornadoes or funnels then you really need to see motion and so video is the key , scud can often get the heart thumping and you will see it rotate. Jimmy would know the best for this as he would remember the storm's actions

Yeah I agree Nick.  Ive got video but unfortunately didn't zoom in on that feature enough.  Here is another pic I forgot to include from within the meso circulation.  Again, there is no confirmed contact with the ground unfortunately and RFD came through our position shortly after.

hmmm June 2nd......

Hi Nick, yes there were a few funnels including another larger (but less clearly defined due to precip) funnel shortly after the one above.  My DVD should have some footage of it if you've seen it.

Brad.
