Well not to get too excited just yet but today they predict more thunderstorms and showers this afternoon. Yesterday sure was a nice one allot of anvil crawlers although I cannot take good lightning pictures so I did not bother also it was raining very heavy.

I just had a storm with light hail about 5mm and a couple of strikes close to the house, I feel a bit deaf at the moment, even the animals are quiet. It has moved towards Araluen/Batemanns Bay, the air after is very....cold.
This one was the first for the season, I had warning, my big fellow doesn't like them and he got agro on the chain, so I fed everyone early and just finished and got him of the chain, I didn't have to say anything he was like a flash in the house and under my bed, before I got even in the door, it is funny.

We just had a very heavy downpour here in Ballina and it is very sticky and hot. A cell is developing in the casino region is anybody chasing? I think all this rain will evaporate now causing the storm to build.

If this is hot and sticky at 20/13 what would call the 30/21 days :P

We have had two showers pass through this afternoon up at Goonellabah. Not a huge amount in them which is a shame however MB mentioned small hail at his place.

Ok guys not much happening today with thunderstorms but heavy showers that’s for sure. In the first picture copyrighted from Michael Baths webcam is the image showing the small hail... I think. And the second image is some development from that cell heading toward us. The third one is after our heavy downpour.

Con,

I eventually got stuck in a traffic jam caused by the storm itself as I headed on to a school function. There were a few of those anvil spider like crawlers - great you caught those!

Nice to see a bit of storm action in this thread !

Stormboy - yes that webcam image is when the small hail (5mm) was falling. Though you can't see much of the cloud dropping the precip as it was overhead and south of my place.

The "storm" that dropped the hail was high based/low topped with no lightning - just a cumulus congestus really.

This is the cell after it passed to the east:

Another larger cell developed near Casino and tracked over Lismore and just south of my place by 4pm. It may have had some lightning but have not had any reports of hail from it.

To the north another cell had a longish mid level funnel. The structure of this cell is probably similar to what passed overhead here.

Cropped from two photos taken 30 seconds apart.

Ok just a little bit more information on that casino cell yesterday. Looking at weather zones lightning tracker for that time there was only one lightning strike and that is it. Small pea sized hail was reported buy weather zone over casino at around 3:45pm.

Member Darinka Braidotti who chases in NSW and visited Darwin last year sent me this image she shot on the coast of NSW the other night with those storms you guys had - wait for it - count the water spouts under the one storm!!!!

I am Gobsmacked and told her I'd post it for her due to excitement.  Credit Darinka Braidotti.

I'd like to see the shear profiles for this evening storm system if anyone has archived them...insane!
