Melbourne rainfall to 5 am 22/9/2009
Overnight rainfall for Melbourne (21/9/09 and 22/9/09) and surrounds has been the best for a long time. When looking at various rain gauges and weather stations around the city via Weatherzone it is apparent that the city has received helpful falls of between 12 mm and 24 mm. This is the best rain event this year for the city.
Although some stations in the Melbourne region have recorded more including Avalon and Wooloomanata 32 mm, Wallan 28 mm, Altona 26 mm and Granite Road 25 mm.
This follows on from the events that occurred around Adelaide 21/9/09 including 25 mm in Adelaide City.
Additionally I was viewing the lightning data on GPATS for the period 6 pm - 20/9/09 to 6 pm 21/9/09 and noted that large areas of South Australia was peppered with 42,130 lightning strikes including 1,050 across Adelaide and suburbs. Another 8,823 strikes across New South Wales mainly in the far West and South West and a further 1,935 across parts of Victoria occurred. Quite an active day for thunderstorms across the affected areas.
