Never-before-seen Bubblecam footage from April 29, 2009We're just now going through all our footage from the roof-mounted bubble camera on the Dominator, and will be posting the clips periodically during slow weather times. This clip is from the near intercept of the April 29, 2009 tornado east of Plainview, TX, and shows the tornado developing to our north, passing just in front of the vehicle, and then drifting south and slowly roping out in the field. In hindsight, this would have been an easy intercept for us, but we still would have had to remain in the western part of the circulation to avoid a powerpole falling on the vehicle. Still though, we did experience wrap-around winds of at least 90 mph I'd say, and were in the very western part of the ground rotation. At this point in the season, we were still testing out how well the vehicle could handle the strong winds, and of course took it to the next level the rest of the season as we became increasingly comfortable with intercepting. Enjoy the video!
