I was in Terranora for a meeting until 3pm EDT Tuesday 17th Nov, and just after that the Murwillumbah hailstorm developed.

I was able to head out near Kyogle after that. There were some nice bolts around with the sunset line through the Northern Rivers but the bolts were all over the place so hard to capture much.

The rain then hit so I drove home with a spectacular show of lightning the whole 40 minute drive - which magically stopped just when I was able to setup the camera again lol.

Wednesday 18th November I was able to take the day off work and head up to Warwick with Rodney Wallbridge. We met up with Matt Smith and Pingtang. It was rather hot to start with but the initial capey updrafts were nice.

The sky ended up cluttered and fairly boring for a while but we remained in the area eventually settling on a lovely clear spot near Clifton. An area of congestus to the southwest had persisted and managed to develop enough towards sunset to give a great display of lightning. It was great to have a very slow moving cell with virtually no rain - sure made it easy to know where to point the camera - unlike the day before.

Thanks to Rodney for some great driving and the company of Matt and Michael!

Hi guys,

Beautiful shots MB! Just stunning as always AND a nice sunset to boot! What more could you want :D

That is some explosive looking convection on that cell from the 18th. I hope you guys enjoyed the chase and everyone got a few great photos!

I'm eagerly awaiting to see something off the change (coming through SA currently), even a small partially active cell would be nice. Hopefully it will drop these ridiculous temps down to more bearable numbers lol!

43.6˚c here in Lightning Ridge today. Still sitting at 37.4˚c as of 8:31pm EDT.

Kindest regards,
Shauno

Gyday all, here are my favourite pics from the 17th and 18th. Got out with Michael on wednesday and had chaser convergence with Habs and Pingtang as well. This year has produced a fairly lethargic start to the seasion...... waiting for the storms on steriods to really kick off the seasion :) Thanks for the company guys!!

Fantastic set there Guys! I looked out the window (from work) at 3pm on the 18th MB and I could see that cell directly above us.  By the time I got into position at 3.45pm there was not much left but I am curious what time did you take the updrafts from Clifton? I was reeling because the sun was hitting it from our side and perfect photo op's around 3pm. It was a sight looking straight up at it, I gotta tell ya!

Two shots from Warwick looking up at the strong updraft on Wednesday evening. Got some time lapse as well - will try and upload later.

It looks like a little bit of action for Northern NSW this afternoon, a few cells are visible on  the radar. Very dry in Brisbane with no real prospect of a storm for a few days.

Bom have issued a storm warning for Northern NSW

For people in the
NORTH WEST SLOPES and parts of the
NORTHERN TABLELANDS Forecast Districts.

Issued at 3:20 pm Monday, 23 November 2009.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds, very heavy rainfall, flash flooding and large hailstones in the warning area over the next several hours. Locations which may be affected include Armidale, Glen Innes, Inverell, Tamworth and Gunnedah
