Hi,

Chase report 5th December 2007

Remained in Dorrigo. It was a long wait but the expected ESE wind change allowed for initiation. I was hoping the wind shear would bring the storms backwards which it did in some ways but the storm just passed east of Dorrigo. This meant very difficult chasing country to contend with - I guess it was after all marginal.









I let the storm go and headed back to Coffs Harbour. I have to return to Sydney but will chase if required Friday and weekend:)

4th December 2007 - Singleton

My appologies for this short post, I am yet to do a full report/photos of this chase as I have been quite busy of late but I will get one up as soon as I can.

Initially we (Matt, Shane and I) targeted further north around the Denman area but eventually back-tracked after noticing storms favoured development closer to the coast. At times some of the structure towards the barrington tops, singleton and cells further south was very impressive and I am certain at least one or two of the cells exhibited supercell characteristics that day.

Our main storm developed an hour or so before sunset just outside of singleton. We noticed it had a round base for quite some time and the timelapse demonstrates that it did indeed have some rotation. The base remained precip free and the main precip curtain was wrapping around the back of the storm! An impressive roll cloud sat in front of the storm for the majority of the time and during stages the base had a slight green tinge to it.

Gunnedah, North West Slopes, NSW, 4th/5th Dec

Matt, Dazza and I were inspired to knock off early on the 4th for a chase. In retrospect I wish we had waited until the next day or the day after when there were some very interesting cells a few hundred km north of Narrabri.

The photo below is of a cell that skimmed by the south of Gunnedah and then headed off towards Tamworth via the Breeza Plains.
