Incredible snow event underway in the southern U.S.!  North Texas is getting hammered

Moderate to heavy snow has been falling this morning across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, with widespread reports of 2-5 inches around the I-20 corridor north to extreme southern Oklahoma.  With 1+ inch per hour snowfall rates anticipated for at least another few hours north of a Stephenville to Canton, TX line (Mineral Wells is currently reporting 4-star snow!), I would not be surprised to see some reports in the 8-10 inch range across north Texas!  When this winter cannot seem to get any crazier, it just keeps doing so.  This compact, intense upper-level storm system will continue eastward toward the Central Gulf Coast Region through tonight, where 5-9 inches of snow are being forecast just north of New Orleans!  Winter storm warnings are currently in effect from North Texas east to southern Mississippi, with winter storm watches in place for southern Alabama into southwest Georgia, including Gulf Coast cities like Mobile, AL and Biloxi, MS!  Thankfully for those living in the Mid-Atlantic to New England, it looks like this southern stream system will surge east into the Atlantic, rather than ride up the coast, so cities like DC, Baltimore, Philidelphia, and NYC should be spared.
