That's an awesome close bolt of lightning Jimmy! Reminds me of the famous US farmhouse image with lightning striking the tree next to it. Gotta be about 200/300 meters max.

Here are some of the best lightning stills from the 26th November which Jeff mentioned previously in this thread. The first four stills show a sequence of a CG followed by a fantastic anvil crawler  8)

This storm occured near picton in south western Sydney on the 27th of November. It was a bit suspect as it developed over picton and basically didn't move for over an hour during which time the flanking line developed cells of it's own. You can see the lowered area over the other side of razorback.

Awsome pictures guys.

I have included 4 of my favourites. The first is as the big storm we had in December was approaching. The second is from a later storm that month. Both from my backyard (getting lazy lately!). The next one is from Razorback early this year and the last is over Pearl Beach in March (was supposed to at the reception on my sister-in-laws wedding).

Well done Justin! You have done well this season given the limited opportunities.

Here is a still from the 26th December 2005 SE Qld Yarraman storm event.

The storm was quite impressive and did produce some interesting bolts including clear air bolts:

Hi,

I am gobsmacked at all these photos. Goodness, that last one shows the CG bolt coming right out of the storm! Is this common? I have never seen it before myself. I have always assumed and observed that lightning takes the most direct path which is usually straight down! I have also noticed that some lightning bolts repeatedly flicker while others are short and sharp. Do any of you know what causes this or is it simply related to the amount of charge that builds between cloud and ground?

The low cloud base and location has me thinking the same as you Jimmy - if correct can we split the burger  ;D

But you seen confident Jeff - so it's probably some misleading blue mountains scud bomb ;)

Was it on Tuesday over the Dandenong Ranges perhaps?  Nah probably not :) actually definately not because Melbourne doesnt get phenomenon like that!

On a serious note, some great photos in this thread.  I will try and post a couple tonight from the US trip.

Brad.

And the big mac meal goes to..........Jimmy!

That base had some seriously strong inflow and the upmotion was so strong that I don't have two photos with the same scud formations! Matt's house almost departed to the land of Oz!

Here's some more pics of the same storm. For those who don't know this event, this storm formed on a triple point just west of Penrith and it showed strong easterly and southerly inflow simultaniously. The inflow and upmotion was very strong for an aussie storm, and it also stayed basically stationary for nearly an hour dumping 150mm of rain on Valley Heights and causing moderate flash flooding.
