Major severe weather event possible Thursday through the weekend!

As of this afternoon's model runs, it would appear as though storm season  in the southern Plains will finally begin later this week. While there have been  a few severe events on the Plains already this year, widespread severe weather has yet to materialize (due  mostly to insufficient moisture or capping). Not many chasers have seen tornadoes yet this year, but that will probably change in a few days. Right now, it would appear as though the major  elements will all be in place beginning Thursday, when a dryline scenario is expected to shape up for the Texas Panhandle north into western Kansas. A large,  powerful trough will be ejecting out of the southern Rockies at that time, while  ample moisture will (finally?) be entering the region from the Gulf of Mexico.  Daytime heating is expected to result in moderate instability, and, when  combined with the great directional shear forecast to be in place, this should  be enough to support the development of supercell thunderstorms during the  afternoon along the dryline. If the current forecast scenario holds up,  approximately 12.8 million storm chasers will be positioned from roughly near Garden City, KS  to Abeline, TX on Thursday afternoon. As such, there is currently a slight risk  of gas station burrito shortages in these areas, with a possible upgrade to  moderate as the event nears, so residents are encouraged to prepare accordingly.  Of course, there will also be large numbers of TVN live streamers out for this  event, adding to the pandemonium and whatnot, so everyone be sure to follow them  as they negotiate the mass chaos on the High Plains. STAY TUNED FOR  UPDATES!
