Severe thunderstorm warnings have been active across NSW since early afternoon on the 2nd. The southern parts were under damaging wind and flash flood warnings, while the north of the state has been under wind, flash flood and large hail warnings since 4.45am today.

Latest warning is for flash flooding over the Northern Rivers and eastern Northern Tablelands after 68mm fell at Glen Innes this morning. The flood warning page shows a few other places nearby had over 50mm.

The cells that moved through the NSW-VIC border region from Swan Hill to Yarrawonga through the early evening last night were very lightning active on radar.  John Allen was in Wodonga late in the arvo and was hoping for lightning in the region later on.  Hopefully he got a good show and perhaps some pics for this thread (or the VIC thread).

I noted some very active lightning storms occurring along the NSW / Victorian state border late 2/11/2008.

Mildura had 13 mm of rain. Rainfall was still only patchy with light falls dominating such as 5.4 mm at Albury and 9.6 mm at Wagga Wagga.

Early 3/11/2008, I noted some significant rain and thunderstorm activity around the Inverell and Glenn Innes area and later saw in the Sydney Morning Herald that Inverell scored 84 mm. It caused some flooding issues and problems of leaking house roofs in the affected areas.

Additionally as I am at home, I am watching small thunderstorm cells pulse just north of Sydney. I have not seen any warnings on these and rainfall intensities are not too heavy.

As I write this, another southerly change is moving north along the coast currently located just south of Nowra at 3.30 pm. There have been some small shower or thunderstorm cells develop on that change but nothing serious and I have not seen any warnings issued for these.

Parts of S inland QLD under a STW at present. Pick of the cells on radar appears to be the one about 40ks SE of St George.

From the approaching weather patterns in the next few days things should be more widespread for you lot.  The best thing is that it's much needed rainfall in those areas that have lacked such a thing.  I know Sth Aust has had a dismal year and with a deep low pressure area moving in from WA and enhanced moisture through the central parts of WA/NT this should hopefully feed more storm activity.

Severe warned storm has just passed through the northern outskirts of Brisbane and the southern parts of the Sunshine Coast. Will be interesting to get any verification of hail or damaging winds for this one.

Last night's Bris sounding shows a fair amount of potential though the shear in linear. Local surface obs had plenty of N-NW winds and dew points in the high teens ahead of the storm.

There are scattered storms through the Wide Bay and Burnett region atm, though no warnings yet. Today's sounding was a little dry but still a lot of potential:
