Date: Tue, 12 Jan 1999 15:32:26 PST Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hello all, Canberra looks good for some storm activity this afternoon. The early overcast stratus layer has burnt off leaving a moist lower level and mostly clear sky other than a good scattering of castellanus AND some quite active congestus builiding up on the ranges westwards already. I know the LI (according to AVN) is only going to be -2.5 in the area this afternoon but the good old fashioned look out of the window and "feel" of the atmosphere suggest some pretty good storms are on the way. Current airport temp is 21.5 and DP of 15.6 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 009 Date: Wed, 13 Jan 1999 09:32:26 +1000 From: Anthony Cornelius [cyclone at stealth.com.au] X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.5 [en] (Win98; I) X-Accept-Language: en To: Australian Weather Mailing List [aussie-weather at world.std.com] Subject: aussie-weather: IRC Nick Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hi all, My nick on IRC is either "Cyclone" or "Force8," Anthony Cornelius -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 010 From: Local_Court_Maclean at agd.nsw.gov.au X-Lotus-Fromdomain: NSW_AG To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Date: Wed, 13 Jan 1999 11:02:59 +1000 Subject: aussie-weather: Yamba Supercell 18.12.1998 Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Howdy all. We are looking for everyone on the list to put in what they think so we can make a descision about this matter. We have a choice of our current location and the new #weather on the Austnet Australia server. We have found that since the Austnet channel was created its popularity has soared to the point where there has been close to 15-20 people in there at one time. Can people get there responses in to this as soon as possible so we can make a descision Regards Greg Spencer - hawk-wx on mIRC -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 019 Date: Wed, 13 Jan 1999 16:31:38 +1100 From: Michael Scollay [michael.scollay at telstra.com.au] Organization: Telstra Strategy & Research X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.5 [en] (X11; I; SunOS 5.5.1 sun4m) X-Accept-Language: en To: Aussie Weather [aussie-weather at world.std.com] Subject: aussie-weather: Continued Heat Wave Forecast Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com I've been taking a look at the MRF's etc. finding no joy for severe thunderstorm spotters & chasers but getting more and more concerned for potential fire-storms as each day unfolds. Thickness and 850mb temperature predictions confirm a persistent band of very hot air from mid-WA right through SA & VIC to the extreme Sth Coast of NSW. Until next Mon 18/1/1999 & Tues 19/1/1999 when a cold front pushes through just a little. The strong NW winds ahead of this change will fan any fires over a broad front between SA and VIC primarily. Most of the models back this up, except for the EC which brings the change through a bit more quickly. I expect Melbourne to see 40, perhaps somewhat higher, on Monday. We're now starting to get far enough into January with consistently high temperatures that a lot of records for highest mean monthly temperatures must be under threat in SA and inland Victoria and southern NSW, unless there is a substantial cooling once this system is through. Got to this homepage: http://www.sux.com/`mark/irc/ Be patient it will take a little time to load. When it does you will have a data entry point. It will ask for nickname, email addy etc. Enter these details. Change the room tto #Weather (from #Viper). Then hit connect. It will then take you straight into #weather on Austnet. Very easy! The lag is minimal, its a great looking window, and has plenty of cool sounds too! Anyone with probs, ring me on (02) 66452049 or 0418662753 ok! ( 9.30am ). The fog ruled out any visual contact ( or lightning photos ). Waited a while, lightning crackles on radio faded so I returned home. ( 11pm ) Drizzle has started and wind has increased. Wollongong misses again. What a surprise.
