(A bonus for Jane who is visiting Canberra at the moment - hope you got something!!) The storms were active between 6.00pm and 9.00pm EDT. With the trough providing general instability, the local triggers seemed to be a combination of the arrival of the sea-breeze front and outflow from a more significant cell to the far SE. The storm/showers were not severe but produced some impressive CG's. My suburb of Higgins was blacked out for about 5 min at the height of the storm around 8.40pm. We received 2.5mm of rain (no hail). Nice to have a bit of activity. Conditions apprear to again be favourable for some more activity today. I have, however, learnt the bitter lesson that others on this list have (that the best storm suppression technique yet discovered is to confidently tell this list that you expect a storm this afternoon - that is an open invitation for the onset of a gusty, dry westerly) and I therefore will not go further than say that I hope that this morning's promise delivers. If anyone is on, contact me Jimmy on 96271943 and we should decide which way we will head out. The tops seem to be getting to relatively high altitudes (for this area) - I would guess somewhere between 12 and 15km. Storms over E Vic are also starting to show up on the satpix. The upper winds seem to be pretty slack - the anvils appear to be drifting in a slow roughly eastward direction. The bases are relatively high at the moment (reflecting the dry air where we are - hopefully the sea-breeze might fix that later). Cu are starting to develop north along the spine of the Brindabellas. The area of Cu to the WNW of Yass is very hard to make out - there is a lot of Ac and castellanus in that direction as well. The north towards the central tablelands looks pretty quiet at the moment with just some Ci, Cs and As visible. Current airport temp is 32.5, DP of 6 Patrick Jimmy Deguara wrote: > > Yes it looks as though line moisture boundary is west of the divided so > there will be some activity to the west of the ranges. Wollongong is close enough to pick up any major storms that develop and drift NE. Unfortunately the bad news is a front will be pushing behind it, so it will be a another 1 day prospect.
