Well I've only just got here, but I'm training them slowly (or maybe quickly!) I always look at my prints while I'm in the store, and if they're over-exposed (in the processing), I'll show them straight away, and jovially suggest, that as it's night-time in the shots, they should be DARK! And I get them to re-print them. I'm never satisfied walking away with over-exposed prints, unless of course, there are no CG shots or anything worth keeping. I understand that their processing machine compensates automatically, so I usually tell them before-hand (if I remember) that the shots are meant to be dark, and should be printed accordingly and they're always happy to oblige. I tried slides a few times (I do much prefer their lack of exposure latitudes, and hence the more accurate prints), but just found that I only ever wanted prints back, and it seemed to be a real effort getting the slides back, and then getting prints from them, not mention hideously more expensive. If I need reprints made of negatives due to processing over-exposure, the lab is always happy to do it at no charge. Anyway, I've babbled enough! Cheers! Marty. The high to the west is starting in influences the direction of the cold air pool, it is now been drawn further north and from the look of the latest sat pics could line up the S.E pretty well. There are now all sorts of warnings in Tassie, which is now expecting snow down to the 350m mark. In Melb at the moment it is very benign, no sign of the coming weather event. The first of the cold air is expected to move through Melb tonight. Nick Sykes Weather is all around you, feel it's force. Terry (& others interested), I'm amazed that your computer didn't lose CMOS knowledge of other setup stuff e.g. disk, memory etc. Earlier PC's had this problem where you couldn't change the CMOS battery without losing all setup info! Many people have given up after this because in many cases, the configuration of the hard disk could not be found as it was not written on the hard disk's case. Hopefully, later PC's don't have this problem:-) Michael Scollay mailto:michael.scollay at telstra.com.au +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 011 X-Sender: paisley at mail.cobweb.com.au Date: Tue, 20 Apr 1999 13:03:23 +0930 To: aussie-weather at world.std.com From: Phil Bagust [paisley at cobweb.com.au] Subject: Re: aus-wx: Cold Outbreak Update Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hi all, Well, the cold front in question just passed through Adelaide. Last night was our coldest night so far this month of 8.3C. My record for April over four years was 2.9C, set in 1996. This cold front seems interesting, however, I believe it want lower the night temperatures that much, due to some coastal showers. The problem is that the weather districts are tied into the district numbering system, which was developed in the 1920's (I think), which in turn forms the basis for the station numbers by which all data is indexed - in other words, they can't be changed easily. There's also confusion when the boundaries of the Bureau's districts don't match regional boundaries recognised by other bodies (the Gascoyne in WA, for example). There will have to be a change of some kind in the near future, as district 40 (SE Queensland) has almost run out of station numbers - they've used 911 of a possible 1000. Unfortunately, because of the cooler wx, it probably won't be anything spectacular, the models are forecasting a marginally unstable atmosphere, however there appears there'll be a fair bit of convergence around in the SE QLD area, and yes - a N-NE'ly wind for part of the day. This combined with the border ranges + added frontal convergence + marginally unstable atmosphere + a few other little things, should *hopefully* cause something to happen tomorrow. But we'll see, now that I just opened my big mouth, it probably won't happen now, and I've just spoilt it for all Brisbanites! hehe All I can say, is that fellow Brisbanites should have their heaters outside tonight, to help in keeping the min temp up, so tomorrow has a head start :) Hopeful Anthony from Brisbane +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 016 From: Bodie_27 at postmaster.co.uk X-Lotus-Fromdomain: POSTMASTER To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Date: Tue, 20 Apr 1999 10:15:30 +0100 Subject: Re: aus-wx: Possible Action for SEQ Tomorrow? Unfortunately, because of the cooler wx, it probably won't be anything spectacular, the models are forecasting a marginally unstable atmosphere, however there appears there'll be a fair bit of convergence around in the SE QLD area, and yes - a N-NE'ly wind for part of the day. This combined with the border ranges + added frontal convergence + marginally unstable atmosphere + a few other little things, should *hopefully* cause something to happen tomorrow. But we'll see, now that I just opened my big mouth, it probably won't happen now, and I've just spoilt it for all Brisbanites! hehe All I can say, is that fellow Brisbanites should have their heaters outside tonight, to help in keeping the min temp up, so tomorrow has a head start :) +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 017 X-Sender: mbath at ozemail.com.au X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Pro Version 4.1 Date: Tue, 20 Apr 1999 21:23:18 +1000 To: aussie-weather at world.std.com From: Michael Bath [mbath at ozemail.com.au] Subject: aus-wx: ASWA photo competition Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Ok weather photographers out there - now is your chance to showcase your most interesting, unusual or spectacular weather images. So I invite everyone to share these, don't be embarrassed! We've been discussing how all of us has had an obsession with flooding our backyard when we were young, and the good old one which I still do occassionally is throw ice onto the tin roof, or onto the grass to make it look like hail :) Anthony Cornelius +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------
