All broad times during yesterday upto 8pm, and all local from midday until 8pm? Or - I understand Michael Scollay has an archive? Is it possible for me to access this? I've only seen a handful of loops...some local, some broad...but the main cell we chased was suspicious (possible rotation, very difficult to tell) but it's possible that the cell to the N split off away from the others, and if it did, then that would be very interesting. It may be a way of breaking the ice for the NSW guys too, although the hailstorm stuff may have to fade a bit first. I am sure they are busy putting together a enquiry report. I think we should perhaps send each other copies of our homegrown videos , I will send Cllyve a copy of my stuff ( pretty tame ), it just may take time. Good to see everyone (most) of us there. In reference to the Giles radar image - i think when this event occurred someone may've mentioned dust being the cause of such imagery. It could be worthwhile looking into the lower level winds for the day to see if they would cause dust storms. Keep us posted on what comes of this becuase I'm sure there are plenty of curious minds out there (here). Thanks Andrew McDonald. P.S. Bring on the spring. The day in question was pretty cold and wet in Sydney with a top of around 12 I think which went pretty close to a record for November. Although I wasn't in Canberra, I remember the media coverage and the snow in Gundaroo (which may be around 100m higher than Canberra and about 40km to the north) and reports of flakes around the outer suburbs which again are around 100-150m higher than the Canberra station. Presumably Blair's dates are official observations at the airport as opposed to observed weather in some of the outlying suburbs over 20km from the airport. I noticed this image, or one very close in time to it, at the time. A check of satpix revealed thunderstorms in the area, but as I remember, cloud top temps didn't look low enough to be associated with such dense echoes. Also the large area of max reflectivity, the rapid drop off and the number of similar "cells" made me recall big dust storms I've experienced in Central Australia. I'll dig out my archived satpix for the time together with any obs data and see what it shows. -- Laurier Williams Australian Weather Links and News http://www.ozemail.com.au/~wbc/ +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 019 From: wbc at ozemail.com.au (Laurier Williams) To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Subject: Re: aus-wx: Radar?
