I run a SparcStation 5 with Solaris 2.5.1 but that doesn't stop my suggestions being applicable to PC/Windoze users:-) I use these utilities for which the source code and some realeased binaries are available for free, including releases for Windoze: 1) http://www.danbbs.dk/~dino/whirlgif/ is the fastest IMHO. It can munge over 350 50kb GIF images into a 35MB animation in less than a minute. 50 or so images take less than 4 seconds. There are also Windoze binaries available. 2) http://www.lcdf.org/gifsicle/ makes slightly smaller animations and is probably the world's best in this regard. It also busts up animations which is why I use it. Great gif editing tool also. It's about 3x slower on my setup than whirlgif and I don't think there's a build for PC users running Windoze but you could always upgrade to Linux:-) Otherwise, you'd need to hack the source for a Windoze release. 3) "convert" from ImageMagick of the E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company is also free and offers a huge range of conversion options. Their gif animations are too big IMHO and it is slower than gifsicle. A Windoze release is available. 4) There are hundreds of option for Windoze users, most of which want you to part with your money in order to get some nice graphics and lousy performance. That's a bit mean of me to say. Take a look at http://www.webreference.com/authoring/graphics/animation.html The reason why I target the command-line utilities is that I mostly automate the animation process so that the computer does all the work ultimately. If there is no rainfall, rainfall would have no effect on the tides! > Is the tide the same height as Hobart? The Australian National Tide Tables quotes an average tide range for Cape Sorrell, Pilot Bay as being 0.9 metres compared with Hobart at 1.3 metres. > Are tides based on standard pressure 1013HPa? Tide predictions are based on sea level observations, with include the barometric pressure effects. The basis of prediction includes annual and semi-annual cycles which reflect the annual and semi-annual cycles in barometric pressure. Thus the tides are based on the average annual and semi-annual cycles in barometric pressure. For monthly mean barometric pressures at Spring Bay (near Hobart) see:- ftp://pacific.ntf.flinders.edu.au/pub/research/monthly_report/means/BP/sbBP.mea For monthly mean sea level at Spring Bay, see:- ftp://pacific.ntf.flinders.edu.au/pub/research/monthly_report/means/SL/sbSL.mea Summing up, the tide predictions are based on the average barometric pressure. It would be more appropriate to use the monthly mean, rather than a long term mean. Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hi all, I had an interesting chat with my mum about the sunset, as some Briabanites may have noticed, it was SPECTACULAR. But...here's something of interest, my mum said it was the weirdest sunset she'd ever seen because it was a light green on the horizon! I immediately thought of a "green flash" - this occurs occassionally just at the right moment when the rays of the Sun are getting refracted at an angle to emit green light. I was wondering did anyone else see this? Maybe it was just our omen? A Reddy-orange sky (maroon kinda) with some green (cane toad colour kinda..) :-) Anthony from Brisbane +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 016 X-Originating-Ip: [203.2.193.71] From: "Paul Graham" [v_notch at hotmail.com] To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Subject: aus-wx: Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race Report... I remember being invited to an online #Weather meeting by Michael, I was only 16 and I was shitting myself, because no one knew my age, and I was afraid if they asked it, they wouldn't take me seriously! Fortunately, he did, and so did everyone else :) After this...things began to happen, such as further participation in #Weather meetings, and the aus-wx (thanks to Jacob). However, Michael has been an invaluable person in the formation of ASWA and I too would like to thank him for his excellent contributions! I look forward to meeting up with Michael at QLD ASWA meetings if he can attend them. Anthony Cornelius Jimmy Deguara wrote: > > Hi everyone. > > Jimmy Deguara here.
