You may have noticed that the satpics do not work at the moment on the nasa

I agree. Michael. People who know what they are doing can do it without
spreading it to the news people. Imagine the youngsters watching saying
just how cool it is to go out in a cyclone. Sorry I disagree totally. The
chasers that do chasing always approach it from a cautious point of view
and one from professional experience. We take calculated risks based on the
fact that we need to get in position. If we go through a storm, we don't go
in with the idea of getting pounded by giant hail!!! We often need to go
through to see what sort of conditions have occurred within the storm from
a real perspective. But we don't advertise this to the whole world on the
news media. We also place disclaimers on our sites.

If this guy wants to do this that is fine but don't advertise it to the
rest of the world. Just like the Crocodile Hunter. Likes to be a hero!!!!

That's fantastic! I thought the 7x10 min loop I saw at 2:30 that afternoon
was good but when you see the whole afternoon like that it's pretty special.
Thanks for doing that Michael S.

Hi Everyone,

I have now decided that I will be attending the Victorian ASWA meeting on
the 7th August. If anyone would like to come along could they please let me
know this week as I am planning on booking around Friday.

I look forward to meeting all of my fellow weather fanatics south of the
border and hopefully there will be some exciting weather around then.

Matthew Piper

P.S. If anyone in the Melbourne area can help me out in regards to
accommodation and transport it would be most appreciated. I am prepared to
pay for any assistance received and don't expect anyone to go out of their
way for me. However I will be inquiring with a Travel Agent to see what
price I have to pay if only I go. The twin share price for anyone that
missed it from my earlier e-mail is $279 per person. This includes 2 nights
accommodation and return airfares from Sydney.

I have uploaded several photos onto the internet which will eventually be
linked to. One which may be of interest is the hail which occurred on the
12th November 1997. These hail were kept in the freezer until Geoff was
able to bring his camera to take the photo.

Some hail which fell in nearby suburbs were up to 7cm in diameter but the
largest in this photo (which has melted somewhat) seems to be about 4.5cm
in diameter. The storm that produced these hailstones is at the following url

If you were wondering why I have not been involved in discussion, I am not
upset, but I have lost the free access I had. Now I have to pay just like
everyone else. Ok stop playing the violins.

By the way, the conditions on this day was unstable but the cap held most
of the activity. I went to play squash for the first time and was
slaughtered whilst outside I watched as the best storm of the season took
shape just to my west. It exploded around 3 - 3:30pm and intensified as it
moved towards the Richmond and Oakville region and then on to the Central
Coast. The large to giant hail went all the way I would say about 30km or so.

Sorry, I now recalled having written an article on this one

http://www.australiansevereweather.simplenet.com/storm_news/issue10/docs/is
s10-07.htm

Sorry. My disorganisation dwells from my lack of experience in not having
payed for internet access. Oh well, this is more than a 2 liner now.

Hi everyone,

I've just done a small update on my website at

http://greenfield.fortunecity.com/fatcat/440/

I've included a section for a couple of snaps taken each day which I'll
upload on a daily basis (or hope to). So if anyone is interested in
seeing what weather we have, take a look. :-)

Cheers,
Rosco.

Hi Jimmy and everyone

A spotter reported 7 cm hail from this storm at Maroota South, and as
you said 4cm + hail was reported from McGraths Hill all the way to
Mangrove Mtn on the Central Coast. That's a fair northward hike by the
storm considering the morning sounding; in fact the 80 knot jet had a
slight northerly component. I wonder if this may have been a supercell;
the photos are pretty impressive that's for sure.

Two days earlier I watched a nice looking storm cross the metro area
from work but flash flooding seemed to have been the only notable
outcome.
