All models I have seen show the possibility of a mild, brief cold snap and snow for next Monday...I guess from what I have seen this season it's far to early to say anything!! Plenty of Cells off the Mid North Coast at the moment. Most are quite impressive with strong convection and cumuliform anvils. There seems to be a very strong looking cell to the South - somewhere near the Newcastle region. The forecast is for showers this afternoon......... and with the decent convection occurring off the coast maybe there will be some action later. Date: Tue, 03 Aug 1999 23:27:21 PDT Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hi everyone, There could be some interesting weather with this upper level cold pool across SE Australia. 500 temps are now close to -30 and fell from around -19 on the 1st (data from Williamtown). Since yesterday, there has been a further 2c reduction (approximately). Most of the instability is being realised in the far NE of the state and also off the coast (Cb's can be seen off Sydney). The most unstable air shows up above approximately 600Hpa and the TTI is around 57 (heavy thunderstorms). If this cold pool is maintained, we could see more wide spread rain and thunderstorm activity if the SE airstream intensifies... - Paul G. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 010 From: "Michael Thompson" [michaelt at ozemail.com.au] To: [aussie-weather at world.std.com] Subject: Re: aus-wx: Brisbane Wx Date: Tue, 3 Aug 1999 22:54:27 +1000 X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2014.211 Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Most of pics are taken at the small end of my zoom, I have a 35-105mm zoom and rarely use the 105mm. When I was travelling down to work from 7:30 to 9 a.m. I noticed a large cell to the east of the city. This then moved off to the NE as Michael has mentioned and for the rest of the day there was only some cumulus left. Today was the third day in a row that I have observed storms but todays seemed to be the best so far. It was yet another day of storms off the Qld South Coast. This morning they appeared very impressive (for Winter especially) and they kept developing all day a certain distance off the coast. Under one of the showers/weak storms off Maroochydore a waterspout was filmed. (It was on Ray Wilkie's Channel 10 Weather Report). It was very shakey footage but nevertheless a ragged shaped funnel and a spray at sealevel were evident. Probably not the only spout around - but the only one on film.
