Haha.. yes, now there's an idea! Donate money, or I'll attend the Nov-Dec storm
chase.

Hey, I'll gladly go to Africa! Isn't it a country of that great continent that
has the highest rate of lightning strikes in the world? Though, I'm sure my
presence would change that :)

Hey all, Deano here. I've been seeing lightning for the last 15 minutes
and am hearing rolling thunder overhead over Tecoma moving in a
North/Northeasterly direction. Lightning occuring at about 1 every 3
minutes. However, as it comes closer, lightning is more visible
appearing once every minute. Appears to be a very small storm but medium
downdraght winds blowing strongly at times. A smaller storm past earlier
about half an hour ago which produced small, infrequent lightning moving
in the same direction. Could be one to watch.

Hi All,

Very quiet on the list today...

I have uploaded a scan of the article that appeared in The Australian
weather page on 6th September - yes I know, very slow at getting this done:
http://australiansevereweather.simplenet.com/temp/australian.gif
It was based on an interview with me.

I have also created a wav file of the interview ABC 2NR (Lismore) did with
Jimmy and me, and was aired on Wednesday 6th October about 9am. Its a huge
4mb file, but goes for over 8 mins. Thanks to Halden Boyd who organised
this interview very quickly after hearing Jimmy and Matt were in the area,
after the long storm chase. Hope you can be inspired to download this file
of Jimmy and me talking about storm chasing. At the end of the interview
there was a plug for the ASWA website, but it is not on the tape I have.
http://australiansevereweather.simplenet.com/temp/interview.wav

Thanks also to Halden and his family for the hospitality today at a BBQ for
my family.

cheers, Michael

Hi all,
Peter here. We have had action at Broadford! Two storms between 6.30
and 7.30 pm local time. They built up quickly out of nothing and sustained
brilliant cg/cc flashes at intervals from 5-2 secs. No pics or radar loops as
I was on the road picking my wife from work.
Hope tomorrow is better.
Cheers Peter (Didjman)

Well, usually you can find a cell or two on the radar and follow them - try
following 30 - 40 (and that's only the local scale!!!!!)

Andrew's out, Chris is at Doncaster Shoppingtown, Clyve's driving trains,
Michael & Jennifer are coping with a new baby in between looking out the
window, Claire and her tonsils are going nuts sitting at home watching it,
Peter in Broadford also has action, Paul in Murtoa is surrounded by storms
and out taking lightning shots....and I'm going down to Rowville with a
clear view to the W & NW.

See ya ... updates appreciated on 0411 455 100

Jane

Hey all

Storms are now starting to affect the melbourne metro area, a weakening cell
went to my south, got a few flashes and that sweet boom thunder. The
situation is now looking very good for Melbourne. The sat pic shows what
could be a number of lines developing. An area of red has just popped up to
the wnw of melb on radar, heading SE towards Frankston.

Nick from Aswood, ESE Suburbs of Melbourne (just below the i in Kilda on
Melb local)

The AVN data models have some very high CAPE values just West & NW of
Melbourne for tomorrow afternoon, peaking around 2200, this is much higher
than yesterdays run of the same time period. What is more Lift Index is -8.

The only problem may be too much cloud, but it appears the best strategy
would be to head west early, somewhere like just south of the Grampians and
follow the system back home.

Have fun guys ! It looks like it is the Sydney siders turn next Thursday -
Friday if the longer term models hold.
