It has in the latest model shifted it N. The winds were favourable and to me are still favourable around Sydney to Mudge areas. Unfortunately, the Illawarra has decided it doesn't need storms. Hopefully the revised models won't do the trick on us again in a bad way. Jimmy Deguara At 22:20 16/10/99 +1000, you wrote: >The Li and CAPE are certainly good just west of Sydney. Well AVN wasn't looking too bad yesterday, with LI's of -4 and -5 (very small areas.. main area was -3) in NE NSW and some low LI's extending up into SE QLD as well.. it was Saturday, so we (James Chambers, Anthony Cornelius and myself) decided we might as well go for a drive and see what we could find.. The showers and storms ended up developing a fair way west of our initial target area, and by the time we got close enough to photograph anything it was after 4pm in the afternoon.. and it never really took off.. there were a few storms in NSW, but nothing too strong.. we spent most of the afternoon umming and arring at which thundery shower to chase.. We did end up seeing some great updrafts on the back of a developing shower/very weak storm.. but it ended up fizzing out as well.. I think the following paragraph sums up the chase quite well.. ( at *$(*) at $*()& at #$%#%# at !# at !# at #$# at $(*& at #$ at #$)* pulse *(#$(&()_*&*^ at ^%#$&* ^%#*&&^%%$&^)_(*# at $ storms * at $ at &*(#^$*( at &$&* ($# at *& at #$*( at #*$# at *&$*(# at &$ (* at #&$*()&(*(&^%$! at #))_#$............ It is looking good for parts of the eastern states during the first half of next week.. and towards the end of next week could really go off with a MAJOR upper level system forecast by EC.. +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ 004 X-Originating-IP: [203.35.83.3] From: "Halden Boyd" [haldenboyd at hotmail.com] To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Subject: Re: aus-wx: Funnel in Tassie Date: Sat, 16 Oct 1999 21:44:48 PDT Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hiya Ira.... THE AUSTRALIAN SEVERE WEATHER ASSOCIATION INC WEEKLY NEWSLETTER - Issue 13
The Australian Severe Weather Association Inc (ASWA) is here to provide a platform for discussion into severe weather, research and education. A lot has been written about about Australia's severe weather in the past and you can view many different stories of people's experience with the weather in the offical ASWA magazine "Storm News". Discussion about the latest weather and a great place to learn from is the aus-wx mailing list from which ASWA Inc was originally formed. The mailing list is
filled with people who are eager to help teach others about all aspects of meterology and to share their experiences.
Membership into the ASWA Inc is $30 a year (with access to the Bureau of Meterology's radar and a quarterly subscription to "Storm News) or if you don't wish for radar $20 a year (with the quarterly subscription to "Storm News" still remaining.) Both visitors and members are welcomed to attend State Meetings. State Meetings are held in Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland in their capital cites. Members can also have the chance to buy an ASWA T-shirt in either polo or round neck styles. If you would like to join you can visit the ASWA Inc website at http://www.severeweather.asn.au/ and fill in an online application form or get in contact with your State Rep. All details can be found at the website.

Special Thanks
I would like to quickly thank Anthony Cornelius for sending me all the necessary information for the newsletter from the aus-wx mailing list. I hadn't had the time to transfer old messages from our old computer to the new one, and without his help this newsletter probably wouldn't have been sent.
ASWA Stat Report
For those who are interested it is a report of logs to the ASWA site for the period of the whole time the site has been up until today. It shows which radars are more popular and how many page
views and the like. Lots of information in there for those interested

Weather News
South Australia
On Thursday night, electrical storms developed over the Gulf to the West of Adelaide, and also in the South and North East
Queensland
With AVN going for -5LI's on the border ranges, and the morning starting off warm and humid, with soft Congestus already going up by 8:30am, we couldn't resist the temptation to chase. Our initial target area was Beaudesert, but soon this changed to Boonah, and then Warwick. When we arrived at Warwick at 5pm, there was lots of fresh development. Congestus towers were popping up all over the place, soon we had several cells to choose from. Unfortunately, they were all single cellular, and
just came down as quickly as they went up. We did observe a few nice things (ie updrafts,) and a nice sunset, but at 6:30pm we decided to call it a day. It was potentially, a very good situation though, the development in Warwick had the "I could explode any minute" look to it, perhaps if it had been 2-3C warmer, it would have. The total chase distance was 700km, certainly a very long day.
