Lightning increased in frequency as well as numbers around us, at one stage I think we had about 5 or so storms all around us. The first storm we noticed was from a cloud that no more than 30 mins earlier took a photo of because it looked interesting :) After the event was finished, a very wet Kathy and I decided to go home check radar and do all the things you usually do before deciding not to chase the storm. We held off on this one, I found it pointless going out with no film in the camera plus I was also tired. So we sat it out listening to the static on Amateur Radio, and watching from the front step of our house. Radar also looked impressive with its wide range of colours up to pink. So I guess that is about it. Oh Fireworks and Lightning together is a must see situation, looks awesome. btw the Lightning got the biggest clap from the crowd :) Astroman aka Andrew Wall +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ 002 X-Sender: paisley at mail.cobweb.com.au Date: Sun, 21 Nov 1999 08:25:17 +0930 To: aussie-weather at world.std.com From: Phil Bagust [paisley at cobweb.com.au] Subject: Re: aus-wx: More storms in Adelaide Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com >While at Monster truck Mania last night Kathy and I saw a few bolts of >lightning, got very wet, and I was wishing I hadn't got free tickets to see >the trucks. I got soaked in about ten seconds! Really pissed off a cabbie by taking the world's shortest taxi ride (~200m). Reckon about 15-20mm of rain. CAPE should be around 3000 in that area so keep an eye on the satpics for development soon - they have reported clear skies with some castellanus about. I'm not sure what they encountered yesterday afternoon, although Jimmy indicated massive cells with powerful CGs about 30-40km from them at around 3.30pm. Date: Sun, 21 Nov 1999 12:05:01 EST Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hi every1, Well, what a night here in Wycheproof! Cloud started thickening late yesterday afternoon and by midnight the moon finally disappeared. I went to bed a bit forlorn thinking that the latest satpic showed a weakening system... Woken about four this morning by torrential rain which continued unabated until about 8.30 a.m. Couldn't see any lightning nor hear any thunder (but that may have been drowned out - no pun intended - by the intense rainfall on the tin roof!) Total rainfall from 3.30 a.m. to 8.30 a.m. = 64 mm! To put this in perspective for those of you from damper climes, this represents two months worth of rain in five hours! Downside to this event is that many farmers here were just about to commence harvest - bad timing. Latest satpic (2330 GMT) shows a possible repeat performance this evening, should the rain bands wrap around enough. We are just entering the clear air now, and with some heating and the current instability a TS is not beyond the realms of possibility. Cheers, Kevin from (wet) Wycheproof. ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ 005 From: "John Woodbridge" [jrw at pixelcom.net] To: [aussie-weather at world.std.com] Subject: RE: aus-wx: Brisbane-wx.. cold!! Crosby. Heavy overcast, light patches of drizzle and at 12:30pm just 20.5C which is around 8C down on the forecast for Amberley/Ipswich today. In fact it has been, I think, unseasonable cool for much of time recently, with just the odd "normal" day thrown in. For 3 consecutive Fridays, it has been uncomfortable cold sitting in short sleeves at the Beer Garden at Centenary Tavern at lunchtime - jumper weather in fact. Nights this week have been down 13..14C and max's briefly around 25C at best. What is going on??? Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Good to hear you got a good bucketing out there Kevin. The weather here so far today has been disappointing. Overcast with weakening rain/showers as they approach Melbourne...with only one short heavy shower and 2 mm in Heidelberg so far. It seems to be one of those rainshadow scenarious from the Divide by the northerlies. It is very frustrating to see a good rain band approaching and then splitting before the city to be north over the ranges and south over the bay and then re-forming east of the Dandenongs. Hopefully as the wind swings around we'll get some more rain later. Even a break in the dull scud with some convective clouds would be nice! Lots of drizzly stuff around today, and a NNE wind! BRISBANE AP 1500 NNE/012 21 1014.4 F You don't see that ob very often for late November in Brisbane! Normally it's well into the high 20's, occassionally low 30's with a nice NNE wind ahead of a trough. Not so today :( I agree with you though John, this November has been unseasonably cold. Last year's summer was also quite cold, only a few days when temps were 30C+ with low-mid 20's DP's. Lets hope this isn't the same this summer. They saw a lowering on one cell almost touching the ground and seme nice CGs coming out of that cell as well. There are 4 cells within their view at present. They have been in Brewarrina for a while after having to wait for a petrol station to open after a lunch break closure! Fortunately, activity is around them.
