        (1) THE AREA OF CONVECTION PREVIOUSLY LOCATED NEAR 13S4 152E8
IS NOW LOCATED NEAR 14.3S8 159.1E6, NORTHWEST OF NEW CALEDONIA.
ANIMATED INFRARED SATELLITE IMAGERY CONTINUES TO REVEAL PERSISTENT
AND RELATIVELY ORGANIZED DEEP CONVECTION TRACKING TOWARDS THE EAST-
SOUTHEAST. PREVIOUSLY, SYNOPTIC DATA HAD GIVEN NO INDICATION OF A
SURFACE CIRCULATION BENEATH THE CONVECTION. HOWEVER, A RECENT
SCATTEROMETER IMAGE REVEALS A POSSIBLE LOW LEVEL CIRCULATION CENTER
DEVELOPING WITH STRONGER PERIPHERAL WINDS. MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS
ARE ESTIMATED AT 20 TO 25 KNOTS. MINIMUM SEA LEVEL PRESSURE IS
ESTIMATED NEAR 1004 MB. THE POTENTIAL FOR DEVELOPMENT OF A
SIGNIFICANT TROPICAL CYCLONE WITHIN THE NEXT 24 HOURS IS UPGRADED TO
FAIR.

Howdy all. Nice early morning storms here at the moment.

This just in from the TC centre:

Only problem is that it is moving ESE.

Paul.

Hi all,

Heaps of Cu building up north of Adelaide right now. BoM have forcasted
storms for a bit further north today and also in the riverland, might go
for a drive later if anything looks interesting. Nothing showing up on
Radar or Sat pics just yet..

Hey Ben from Brisbane here..

This story is good for a laugh, just saw it on the ABC site..

I get excited when we get our first storms of the season.. but i'm not
sure i've ever thought about stripping off and running down the main
street of town..

**************

Weipa celebrates rains in traditional fashion

The people of Weipa, on Cape York Peninsula, have turned out to
celebrate the first big rains of the wet season - in the nude.

About 200 people stripped before running through town early this
morning - an event the locals call their "running of the bulls".

And for the first time, several women joined in.

However, pop star, Madonna, who had expressed interest in
participating was not among them.

The runners collected donations for the Royal Flying Doctor Service
during the mad dash.

This upper trough is probably the one that's approaching South Africa at
present causing forecasts of heavy rain in parts of that country.
There's a forecast of an ECL there as well.

Have been doing some thinking about Gulgong and I have concluded that it is
a good position on those ' iffy ' days when you do not know where the storms
are going to fire.

Why ? Gulgong is in strategic location that allows you to monitor potential
storms in several different geographic areas. You can then get to any within
2 hours. To the south you can monitor storm potential over the central
tablelands. To the east over the Wollemi National Park ( this would mean the
lower Hunter may fire ). Northeast and you can keep an eye on the upper
Hunter. North and any decent storms around the base of the NW slopes can be
seen, and finally any mature cells out near Dubbo should be able to be seen
as well.

There is an excellent lookout about 1km east of the Post Office called
Flirtation Hill. It is on the Henry Lawson drive. View is 360 degrees and
all the above can be observed. Cons- well there are several lightning
conductors and Telecom towers and its the highest point in miles, not the
place if your paranoid of lightning.
