The email server has been down since yesterday afternoon, so I've been unable to notify of updates, however although I have kept the animations updated. Overnight, TC ILSA has weakened to Cat 1 - although JTWC has it continuing to strengthen - in this case, I think the BoM is more accurate judging by the satellite images. Meanwhile, TC JOHN has strengthened to SEVERE Cat 3 with winds gusting to 180 km/hr near the centre, and on it's current course will cross the coast between Karratha and Port Hedland sometime on the Wednesday the 15th. Frame #6 has been added to the SEVERE TC JOHN Cat 3 map animation are on-line at http://www.ace-net.com.au/~carls/John.htm. Frame #9 has been added to the TC ISLA Cat 1 map animation at http://www.ace-net.com.au/~carls/Ilsa.htm. Both animations are also accessable near the top of my Current Cyclone Information page at http://www.ace-net.com.au/~carls/current.htm alongside the links to the TC information from BoM and JTWC. I quite enjoyed myself, and I think everyone else did too - it gave everyone who came an opportunity to get to know each other further, and of course - talk about the weather! We also watched some of James' chase footage from the 2 week chase, and saw some of Steve Baynham's footage - AWESOME updrafts in one of them, and some great footage of 2-3cm hail falling with winds near 100km/h from a severe thunderstorm on the Gold Coast on Friday. A huge appreciation goes to John Woodbridge, and his wife Debbie for hosting the BBQ. Both of them put a lot of time and resources into this event! John's steak + mushroom sauce is to die for (I think we've found a new candidate for some one who should cook on the storm chasers BBQ Jane!!!) And he makes a mean Brandy Butter + pud. Thanks to Char (James' girlfriend) for assisting as well - again, much appreciated! Greg Browning from Victoria also came - he stayed at my place for a couple of nights, and left this afternoon to start heading back south. The next meeting will not be until Feburary - the reason being that many people will be away in the couple of weeks surrounding New Years (the year before the real new millenium!) So we'll aim to have a large meeting in Feburary, and we'll see if we can arrange a guest speaker for that meeting too. -- Anthony Cornelius Queensland Coordinator of the Australian Severe Weather Association (ASWA) (07) 3390 4812 14 Kinsella St Belmont, Brisbane QLD, 4153 Please report severe thunderstorms on our Queensland severe thunderstorm reporting line on (07) 3390 4218 or by going to our homepage at http://www.severeweather.asn.au +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ 006 X-Sender: carls at ford.ace-net.com.au Date: Mon, 13 Dec 1999 16:35:57 +1000 To: aussie-weather mailing list [aussie-weather at world.std.com] From: Carl Smith [carls at ace-net.com.au] Subject: aus-wx: TC ILSA and SEVERE TC JOHN update Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hi All. >From the BoM information, TC ILSA has intensified a little, although still Cat 1, and the watch for Christmas Island has been cancelled. SEVERE TC JOHN with winds gusting to 180 km/hr near the centre has sped up and changed to a more SW direction. A cyclone warning is current for coastal areas between Wallal and Dampier with those communities on a blue alert and the watch extends south to Onslow. Looks like Tues night to Wednesday morning could see very severe Cat 4 conditions somewhere along the Pilbara coast, depending on future movements. Please refer to the official BoM information if you live in or near the areas affected, as by the time I get the 6 hour interval animations updated (at least 1 hr after issue of the relevent warnings), and send this out, the situation may have changed. I think that unfortunately Narmarrgon - the lightning maker in Aboriginal culture - decided that last year Darwin got more than its share and this year decided to concentrate around Adelaide River and surrounding area. Though I have my suspicions that it was the fact there were 2 AWSA members up there at the same time - that is sure to drive them off . I noticed the first night I got back that there were storms there at night so I think my theory has some merit :-) Chris ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ 008 Date: Mon, 13 Dec 1999 19:42:10 +0930 From: Paul Mossman [paulmoss at tpgi.com.au] X-Mailer: Mozilla 4.08 [en] (Win98; I) To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Subject: Re: aus-wx: Re: Heavy Rain Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Chris - I agree with you wholeheartdley!!
