If this cold air aloft remains and we get some good convection with the next trough, I can say that hailstorms are again probable. The jet is expected to be further west so at this stage slower moving storms are more likely. Whoever cops the jet maxima will have some very severe weather with the system. We have not had a good trough lingering along or near the ranges for quite some time. I thought i could see a hail shaft, in the very small preciptitation, but dismissed it as light reflecting from the setting sun. I climbed my way up the back of Nepean gorge, where they must have recently had some heavy and there was thick mist. Shortly after, i heard a 'tink- tink', ..thinking "oh..they must have recently graveled the road", until a hailstone smacked my on the forehead, and then started falling more densely. (this is the second time i have been driving in the car and been cracked on the skull by hail...someone trying to tell me something perhaps..?) The hail was weird hail. Most hail is usually uniform, mostly, but this was tiny almost sleety type hail, and big round 1-1.5cm hail all mixed in together. Anyway, a nice end to the day. Not too sure if it will hit , but I wouldnt mind it so Channel 9 can show some more footage of it !!! Also there is a STA for WA out that includes the perth hills area . That guster was spectacular! Just got home from spotting (some nice showers and storms in SE QLD today too) and switched on channel 10 to see a great shot of the guster - really mean look to it.. Perth local showed green and yellow from the storm - but local is dedset shagged for some reason.. broad scale seems to show a more believable intensity with large areas of pink.. Is there anyone on the list from WA BOM that can tell us why there is such a difference in intensity between the local and broad scale radar? I called the Perth BOM a few months ago about it, but the person i spoke to had no idea what i was talking about.. James Harris wrote: > > And also Channel 10 has the Golf live from Perth on also. A caught a nice cell WNW of Gatton, very intense precipitation!!! Water over the road on the Warrego Hwy - flooding over some side roads, and branches and trees down over the roads. Lots of leaves/twigs etc were strewn across the roads too! Interestingly, I observed definite rotation from this cell while travelling on the Gatton Bypass - unfortunately, I got caught up in trees, and worst of all - stuck behind a police car!!! So there's very little footage of this until the cell becomes quite rain wrapped. Some nice horizontal vorticty evident on a ill-defined gust front too, a semi-permanent rain foot was also present - although generally only small, it did fluctuate a fair bit. Some very nice little cells about today west of Brisbane, quite enjoyable :-) I'll try and write up a report soon, and then I should have photos in the next couple of days.
