Hi Everyone,

Some nice heavy rain in northern QLD over the last couple of days.. a
handfull of falls in the order of 100-126mm in the Peninsula and the
North Tropical Coast and Tablelands districts in the 24 hours to 9am
Saturday, with plenty of falls between 25 and 100mm..

Up to about midnight Saturday totals were ranging anywhere from 35 to
100mm in coastal parts of northern QLD, and a flood warning was been
issued for the Don River a short time ago, which is pasted below (it
says renewal of flood warning - but i don't remember seeing it on the

tomorrow..

We actually have someone in Bowen to photograph the flooding as well!!!

The rainfall for the 7 days to 9am Saturday for some of the stations up
north is huge - plenty of totals over 100mm, a stack of totals over
250mm, and Topaz has recorded a whopping 450mm..

Coffs readings are taken at the airport, situated behind the dunes on the
south side. Cold air pools all the way along the flat coastal heath country
so it's not unusual to get frost right up to the dunes and even over them
onto the beach. I've seen frost covering the grass at Sawtell surf club and
on the spinnafex on the foredunes - July 1979 from memory. The close
proximity of the eastern edge of the Great Divide could also influence
overnight lows as the lee effect shelters us from the westerly winds.

The bananas that don't get frosted are all on the steep slopes of the
coastal ranges. Low elevation plantations get hammered in a cold year.

The BoM has added observations for all the AWS in NSW at least:
http://www.BoM.GOV.AU/weather/nsw/observations.shtml

Obs for NE NSW, SE NSW and West NSW were not there last week. They seem to
be updating several times a day judging by the time stamp.

No worries Laurier,

Thats what I thought you meant, I've kept a number of your locally
orientated emails on file for reference, they have helped me grasp
things a lot.

Another NSW ASWA meeting at Mario's place again.

90 Station St Arncliffe
Saturday 12 February 2000 - evening and night. Get there anytime after 5pm
I suppose. Bring along a chair if you want, money for the pizza, snacks and
drinks please.

This time I would like people to bring along photographs to display, your
data to present, and perhaps we will show some video as well. The main
theme of the night is to allow members and visitors to talk informally
about some weather aspect or experience that have affected them in the
past. So please think of a story and we will talk about that for a little
while!!! This change is trying to get the survey hints into action. (The
survey was sent to ASWA members of NSW and Victoria)

See you there, as I normally say - visitors and members are always welcome.

which might be worth reading for those interested in wind chill factor
calculation.

The discussion centres around calculations in the USA. I don't know
what,
if any,are used here especially as we don't get temperatures as
low as the USA. Obviously in Australia it's more relevant to alpine
climates or
winter generally particularly in the south.

Hi Everyone,

What a change today has been from yesterday. The southerly that came through overnight has really had a marked impact. The temperature hasnt been able to rise much above 20 all day in comparison to the 39 we had yesterday. Todays maximum of 23.8 was recorded just after midnight which doesnt happen too often and the minimum of 19.4 was at 10:25am.

I have put a graph up of the last 3 days temperatures for everyone to have a look at. I have also included a table of daily weather data for Feb so far.

You can see how flat the temperature trace for today was compared to yesterday and the day before. Certainly strange weather here this summer. It never fails to surprise. You have to be ready for all seasons.

Hi Everyone,

I have finally got around to updating the NSW Storm Chasers Website after months of neglect hehehe. I have been just too busy since getting a job but after Jimmy reminded me of how out of date it was (Thanks mate for reminding me) I decided to do something about it. Anyway enough of my waffle hehehe. The address to go for those who have never visited is

http://members.xoom.com/_XMCM/backshear/nswstormchasers.htm

I have included some pics from a video night held in May last year and made a few other minor alterations to the site. I hope to add a few more improvements to it in the coming weeks. Any suggestions on how I could improve it and what you would like to see added would be most appreciated.
