Michael Hi all, Just came across an interesting website, Blueskyfrog.com http://www3.smsmebaby.com/login/default.asp and they have a couple of services that may be of interest to you all, esp when chasing (as long as you're in phone coverage). I haven't had a good look thru it all yet, but the email to sms message on your mobile might come in handy for chasers wanting radar info etc. Cheaper than a whole phone conversation which can drag on an on. :-) I've had a quick look for other free internet to sms message sites, but the few I found all suck. :-( Cheers, Rosco. +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ 002 From: "Anthony Spierings" [as029 at bigpond.net.au] To: [aussie-weather at world.std.com] Subject: aus-wx: Off Topic - Greenhouse Warming Date: Sun, 23 Apr 2000 07:15:40 +1000 X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook 8.5, Build 4.71.2173.0 Importance: Normal Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hello List, To disclose a potential conflict of interest, I work for an electricity utility. So I have a passing interest in the subject of greenhouse gasses. While electricity itself does not cause global warming, the generation of it does - when fossil fuel is used. I am not worried about by my employment prospects, short or long term. If all the old power stations are shut down I will be out installing solar power cells, or building a fusion plant (Warp 3 please, Mr Sulu) :). What worries me is that we (individuals) have plenty of words but not much action (from individuals). If one is concerned about greenhouse warming how about putting some money where the mouth is. Nearly every electricity retailer will sell you "clean energy" if you so desire. The incremental cost is small. (ENERGEX's earth choice will limit the incremental cost to a maximum of $3 per week.) And you will become an active participant in the reduction of greenhouse gasses. Below are some links to various electricity utility's web pages on the subject. I was going to do a few more, but they are so easy to find - why bother. http://www.energex.com.au/athome/ASP/earthschoice_save.asp http://www.ergon.com.au/resident/green/greenfr.htm http://www.energy.com.au/environment/pureenergy.html http://www.integral.com.au/level1/envenergy/index.html Regards, Anthony Spierings +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ 003 Date: Sun, 23 Apr 2000 06:57:50 -0700 From: Lindsay [writer at lisp.com.au] X-Mailer: Mozilla 3.0 (Win16; I) To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Subject: aus-wx: First ground frost in Upper Blue Mountains Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Sunday 8am: Screen temp was 1.5 degrees at around 6:30am. Nice light frost in Upper Blue Mountains, at my place. Ice on roofs, cars and some of the lawns. Bird bath frozen over. Thought it might have gotten a bit colder than that as it was 4 degrees at 9pm last night with still conditions and clear skies. I imagine the suspended swamp areas (Frogs Hollow/Centennial Glen etc) could be considerably cooler. Our place, being one of the highest spots in town (Just east of Whitely Park at close to 1100 metres) gets a mild Katabatic effect. You can see this kick in (as Laurier has pointed out) during late evening whilst observing coal smoke from chimneys etc. Lindsay Pearce +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ 004 X-Sender: jdeguara at pop.ihug.com.au X-Mailer: QUALCOMM Windows Eudora Pro Version 4.2.2 Date: Sun, 23 Apr 2000 08:52:41 +1000 To: aussie-weather at world.std.com From: Jimmy Deguara [jdeguara at ihug.com.au] Subject: aus-wx: Ulludulla pics taken from Schofields plus more Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Go to the page link: australiansevereweather.simplenet.com/photography/photos/2000/index04.html towards the bottom from the 5/4/00 australiansevereweather.simplenet.com/photography/photos/2000/index05.html all the Ulludulla pics are towards the bottom. The story about the "n" is the word was too long by one letter for a domain name.... you learn something new every day. Oh well the good thing is that this means less confusion with ASWA.... "its not over til its over...." - well seems that the dreaded forecast has arrived. The monster High building is going to usher in the SE trade winds for us and bring on the dry.......................... at least this Wet has been in the Top 10 ever and has been the longest wet since records began - dont know what it is attributed too - as there was only a moderate monsoonal active phase - maybe the climatologists amongst us would like to have a go? At least one good thing will be this blasted humidity will be gone - damm its been like they say the build up is like! Damm Damm hot. All I can say is - keep up the frequent updates on the Southern weather ........ and those who dont like them can delete them for goodness sake! Some who dont have weather would like to hear about some who do! Those chasing in the next 6 months - take care! And who is organising the end of year chase ? I used to work in a coal fired station on Lake Illawarra. Old 30 and 100 MW units, they were manual everything. Nothing like running up a turbine through the critical speeds by hand. We use to notice when lightning struck transmission lines many Km's away as you get a spike on the some of the charts. The suggestion was made by a number of people who went last year, that 'state teams' should consist of 3-4 cars with 1-2 people in each, with each pair of cars 'buddying up' with regards to carrying requirements, camera gear and luggage. This will also allow us as a larger group to cover more ground rather than creating a 'moving traffic jam' as we did last year and only covering a minute part of the country. It also appears that the 'chase' will be strung out from early November to sometime in January with people coming and going right the way through. My individual opinion......
