For a while now Vodaphone, Telstra & Optus have run SMS messaging within their own systems (with date and time stamping) at between 15c & 20c per message of up to 160 characters. Although this service bears a cost to the sender, its benefits are as follows:- it's faster to use & you can do it while driving (even if you shouldn't) the messaging is instant - like seconds!!! you get to type more information you don't have to be in front of a computer I've tested all of the 3 carriers and messages will now go across them from one to another ie: Vodaphone to Optus, Optus to Vodaphone & Optus to Telstra & Telstra to Optus. My recommendation (having used both SMS by computer as mobile phone for more that 6 months as well) - use your mobile phone if you can - at least you know that the message gets through!!!! -------------------------------- Jane ONeill cadence at rubix.net.au Melbourne Storm Chasers http://www.rubix.net.au/~cadence ASWA - Victoria http://www.severeweather.asn.au "..thinking outside the square" -------------------------------- +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ 002 X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express Macintosh Edition - 4.5 (0410) Date: Mon, 24 Apr 2000 04:46:44 +1000 Subject: aus-wx: Strong inversion From: "Mark Hardy" [mhardy at magna.com.au] To: Weather Junkies [aussie-weather at world.std.com] Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Very strong inversion with this anti-cyclone was apparent on the current obs this morning. Whiles places such as Braidwood and Goulburn were snap frozen on 2- to -5 degrees, Mt Hotham was a relatively balmy +9 sticking up above the temperature inversion. The winds blew a 1,500 Lb. radar antenna off of it's mast and carried it 1/4 of a mile across the airport property, all of the VHF radio antennas off of the top of the tower and 23 power poles that carried the electric and communications wires from the radar site to the tower.Almost all air traffic is being diverted to Providence RI or Hartford CT as a result of this and the Boston airport is down from an average 60 arrivals and takeoffs per hour to 20 and is not expected to return to normal until Tuesday at the earliest.Doppler radar at the time was returning an incredible 73 Db's which is only two shy of the max reading in the "extreme" range at the top of the scale of 75Db. ************* 213 Mph converts to just over 340 km/h .. which is much higher than the strongest gust ever recorded in Australia (267km/h i think) which was recorded in a Cyclone! +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ To unsubscribe from aussie-weather send e-mail to:majordomo at world.std.com with "unsubscribe aussie-weather your_email_address" in the body of your message. -----------------------jacob at iinet.net.au------------------------------ 005 From: "Michael Thompson" [michaelt at ozemail.com.au] To: [aussie-weather at world.std.com] Subject: aus-wx: ASWA AGM - Videos Date: Mon, 24 Apr 2000 21:48:12 +1000 X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook Express 5.00.2014.211 Sender: aussie-weather-approval at world.std.com Reply-To: aussie-weather at world.std.com Hi For those coming to the AGM I propose that we organise the videos a bit. - As many individuals as possible to bring a VHS highlite tape - don't be shy. - All tapes to be limited to 15mins of highlites. - All tapes to be ' parked ' at start of footage. - Think of something to say as well. It is quite acceptable to pause the tape between scenes to explain what is coming up. - All members bringing tapes to inform me over the next couple of weeks if possible. The purpose of the above is so that we can get to see as wide a range of videos as possible. I we have time left we can play longer chases or full footages.
