Hi all,
Up to 9.00am this morning, Broadford had received 23mm of rain!

Maybe we may get a flood warning!!!!!!!!!!!! Hehe. It was excellent
meeting the other Victorian guys yesterday.
Cheers Peter(Didjman)

Nice to see the Victorians getting some rain; Adelaide
as well has had some pretty interesting wx in the last
two days judging by the radar imagery.

Canberra has had light rain from around 8.00am. I have
received 3.5mm so far in Higgins. The rain is increasing
in intensity (at 12.00 noon Sunday) and this trend should
continue looking at the mass of blues and a bit of
yellow on the radar to the west.

Interesting that the precipitation currently falling
in the ACT does not show on the radar - even though
it is falling from a middle level cloud band. The
rain currently falling in the Snowy Mtns (see
http://www.ski.com.au/info/snowcams/charlotte.html )
also does not show on the radar so there is a
definite hole in radar coverage over SE NSW.

As befitting the rain in the mtns, temperatures
are quite mild: it has been around 8 or 9
degrees for most of the morning.

Patrick

The pre-frontal stuff has just started in Taralga (at 12:20) coming from a
rain patch on the radar near Oberon. It'll get heavier later no doubt when
the stuff from Wagga comes over this way...but will it follow me back to
Wollongong tonight???

An uncontrollable bit of excitement is just starting to creep into me about
the prospects for snow here (and at yours Lindsay!) next Saturday...models
have been fairly consistent up until now forecasting a nice deep SW stream
and 540 thickness action. *waiting*...

Andrew.

Hey all,

With Melbourne about to be hit with Thunderstorm warnings, I thought I
would let everyone know that we had some here this morning. Mind you it
wasn't very impressive due to the lack of some heavy lightning for me to
test out my new camera, but I was happy to hear the rumbling of thunder
after a long dry spell. I was about to chase this storm but my car decided
to bleed transmission fluid all over my driveway, which I actually thought
was a cat being churned up by the fan at first. After changing cars it was
too late to chase as the storms rear was headding away from us at a few
knots faster than the speed limit. We did go to the local lookout to see a
huge wall of heavy rain bearing down on us quickly, by the time we were
half way down the hill it was well on top of us and small hail was hitting
the car. So unaffected by another bust chase, we headed back home to see a
few more Cb's develop throughout the day, but nothing came out of them
except rain and a touch of hail. I did manage to get a picture of a nice
fake funnel with a small Cb behind it, looked quite interesting (and I did
get the bino's out just to make sure it was fake). So for the rest of the
day I have been updating my picture gallery for my 117 or so pictures
ranging from my Astropictures to Misc, with some weather ones rolled into
it aswell. It can be found at http://lightning.virtualave.net/gallery.htm
beware of the popup's as I have not yet added the code to stop it. Well the
storms should be rolling in Melbourne now so I will say goodbye to all and
return to the Kitchen for some tea..

Cyas later

THE AUSTRALIAN SEVERE WEATHER ASSOCIATION INC WEEKLY NEWSLETTER -Issue 3
The Australian Severe Weather Association Inc (ASWA) is here to provide a platform for discussion into severe weather, research and education. A lot has been written about about Australia's severe weather in the past and you can view many different stories of people's experience with the weather in the offical ASWA magazine "Storm News". Discussion about the latest weather and a great place to learn from is the aus-wx mailing list from which ASWA Inc was originally formed. The mailing list is filled with people who are eager to help teach others about all aspects of meterology and to share their experiences.
Membership into the ASWA Inc is $30 a year (with access to the Bureau of Meterology's radar and a quarterly subscription to "Storm News) or if you don't wish for radar $20 a year (with the quarterly subscription to "Storm News" still remaining.) Both visitors and members are welcomed to attend State Meetings. State Meetings are held in Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, New South Wales, and Queensland in their capital cites. Hey Ben from Brisbane here..

Someone on IRC just alerted me of this.. Check out the max wind gust at
Mt Crackenback.. up to 120km/h (somewhere around 65 knots) today, and up
to 109km/h (55-60knots) yesterday..

http://www.thredbo.com.au/winter/snow_rep/weather.html

Anyone have any comments on how legit these figures are? That's quite a
stiff little breeze up there :)
