Yeah Paul and list,

In the aftermath of festivities that little low scooted down the coast
dumping on all in its path - some thunder at times, particularly after it
passed. Storm here yesterday pm collapsed as in came off the ranges from the
NW. Mackay area (S of here) got storms in the wee am this morning which
knocked out most radio and TV (and the i'net system) for some hours.

Rain here was 162 mm for last 6 days to 6am, including 83mm to 6am on the
27th. Freshened the place up a bit, and ran some rivers. The cane farmers
are smiling.

Today another beautiful day in paradise!

see ya.

Storms going up over the escarpment and distant thunder heard. Radar
suggests that there will be lots to choose from in the next 1 hour or so,
amazing what 30 mins of sunhine can do.

Storm passed through here 1250 to 1300EDST with 8mm very heavy rain
and some low key rumbles of thunder *after* the heavy shower and
moving away to the E. Now (1330) there's closer thunder to the S, and
7/8 very messy cloud cover but with strong sunshine striking through
occasionally. Radar is certainly showing the effects of this with bits
of yellow, green and pink popping up everywhere.

If you download the last few hours of water vapour or IR pix from
http://www.yoko.npmoc.navy.mil/nsds-e20shots/austwv/ or
http://www.yoko.npmoc.navy.mil/nsds-e20shots/austir/ and animate them,
you can see very rapid growth in the CuSc field behind the trough, and
clear rotation around the low in eastern Bass Strait. There's been a
lot of Cu/Cb growth west of the Great Divide between about Orange and
Moree between the 0030z and 0130z shots (11.30 and 12.30 EDST),
especially visible on the WV images. As I write, there's increasing
thunder to the W. Anyone chasing?

Laurier

A few close Cgs happening around Beacon Hill (2:20pm) and plenty of loud
rumbles. The storm in question was pink on radar when I last looked - it
looks dark but boring and featureless.

The latest update of the rainfall data can be seen at

http://www.ozemail.com.au/~weather/rain.html

(I had a bit of fun normalising the data to get a proper return period
but I think I've got it right with Minitab's help and cubic or
logarithmic transforms..)

Presently some occasional rumbling thunder with rain looking like it's
'setting in'.

I hope this east coast low slows down a bit as it comes south. I am
especially interested in the likely development or otherwise of the
southern extension of the trough ie whether a secondary low will centre
near Sydney.

Hi all well we are about to head off to Pearce Air Base on the local
Radar for Perth, to have a look at what is happening ok. If it does fire
up like it should we will be chasing NE i think at this stage. We had
LI's -4 and a cape of 1400 still, so we should get something from it.
Any updates would be greatly apreiciated Ph # 040 799 1213. Matt Smith

Went out chasing today, met up with Jimmy and James Harris, saw a few
storms, some lightning, heard some thunder, some nice updraughts into
developing cells, but apart from that, every storm was featureless, i took
1 photo, and that was of James videoing the storm! ahh well, im not
complaining, a storm is a storm.

I came home(i start work shortly) and currently James/Jimmy are at Camden,
watching a cell to there west which has just gone red on radar.

BTW, at my house in Burwood, we had 34mm since i had been gone, my dad said
it p!$$#& down, gutters overflowing etc, yet at the 2 closest AWS's to me
(Homebush and Canterbury) They currently show falls of only 12 and 4mm
respectivly since 9am...

Anyway i must be off,

Matt Smith

Seven Hills weather 4.45pm:
lots of ragged convective cloud moving from the east at lower levels and
developing vertically into the higher rain cloud layer. Local thunder
on the north shore. Forecast (4.15pm) for the next few hours is for
northeast winds on the coast, east to southeast inland.
Looking at the 7am,10am and 1pm surface charts, the low deepened rapidly
and moved southeast from 7 to 10am, but appears to have been almost
stationary thereafter.

Yeah, same here in Ashfield. at about 3pm I was driving home along
liverpool road from a party last night, and it started to pour down as i
neared home. It continued for about half an hour, just as heavy the whole
time, with plenty of loud cracks of thunder. I'm not sure of the amount of
rain, the inner 25mm cylinder overflowed into the outer cylinder, plus i
wasn't home to record yesterday's rain, which mum says was about 10mm, but
she didn't record it for some reason. So it's still in there.
And the storm was pretty featureless as you note.
