Thanks for those of you that posted the Macquarie Island information. It
was appreciated. Might just take the runabout down for a look on the
weekend

Seriously though, would be a great place to visit, I'd reckon.

-15 for Glen Innes, wow! Where is the new site? What sort of topography?

I remember a post from Laurier last year saying it can get much colder
in the hollows around here, in the Upper Blue Mountains. I know the
frosts are much heavier in certain areas around here. Wonder if it gets
to say -10 around here in the hollows...

That was just great Leslie, at least from this rank amateurs point of
view. I loved your "peripheral scientists and pseudoscientists" remarks.
Years ago, (When my health was really bad - another story, too long and
not appropriate for this list) I started dismantling my own
Philosphical/Religious upbringing from my bed, via copious notes and an
old XT computer. To cut a long story short I discovered all sorts of
things by developing my own ideas/writings etc (I've had some
Theological training) and then much later when I decided to read other
works, I realised just how similar my ideas were to many "Great Writers"
on mysticism etc although my thoughts were also very personalised and
different to the "mainstream writers" in certain ways too. It encouraged
me to realise that we all contribute to the Mind of understanding. In
reality, no-one is less or more of a contributor, just a different
ontributor, offering different things to the pool of understanding.

Anyway, I'll leave it there, suffice to say, your lateral thoughts on
approaching and understanding the weather are refreshing and not
dissimilar to my own ideas as they relate to thinking and understanding
things, in general. Not that I would ever dream of putting my hand to
"research mode" or "theoretical perspective" on such a topic as the
weather, just yet. In another 20 years I might consider it. :-)

Hi Jane,
Just running an idea past you all. I have a small program
which could be used to enable all people on the channel to use VOICE. I
use this program on flight simulator for voice air traffic control. All
that is needed is the program, headset/mics and a common IP address. Let
me know what you think (either private or list email).
Cheers Peter(Didjman)

Don't panic!

This has been a fairly standard disclaimer which has popped up on all
current observations pages over the last year or so, pending the
development of a defined 'Basic Products Set' which will be made
freely available - I think the driving idea behind this is to provide
a uniform national policy, rather than to increase/decrease the
level of freely available service overall.

My understanding is that it is likely (although not certain) that
hourly AWS observations will be part of this set. If this is the
case then they would be available nationally - which means a loss of
frequency for some areas (especially around Melbourne, Adelaide and
Sydney), but coverage of many areas that presently have none (apart
from the 0900 and 1500 bulletins).

Has it ever snowed in Kuwait?. Do you get frosts?. 2. Did the Iraqi bombing of the oilfields in 1991 have any significant impact on Kuwaiti weather in the following months?. It may have been many months since since email to Aussie-weather was posted, but I had left it (I was going to reply to it soon after it was posted) and have only just 're-discovered' it in my inbox. I can tell you that I would rather the medium heat than a heat wave like we may be up to. Of course all those along or near the coast don't have to endure the heat as we do out here especially when there is a sea breeze comes in. I tell you, some of the heat waves we have had here can compare almost with places in the bush. Luckily, we do get S changes. Besides, I have to do a little shifting tomorrow and I am not impressed!!! The Mean Fiddler will run out of drink when I get there tomorrow evening!!!
